Also, why has his handler, i.e. dad, not been more vocal lately? Maybe he has but I haven't seen or heard about it. Now he's not even going to go on the Auburn visit. If his dad was so concerned earlier in the recruiting process, it sure has died down now. The dad seemingly not being as involved leads me to one of two options:

1. he is only taking the Auburn visit b/c they invited him and why turn it down, or

2. he is afraid that the dad will get in the way of the hostess action

Hopefully it's the former which I think would be a good sign for us.

Its about damn time someone put on a State hat at one of these God-forsaken press conferences.
One thing is certain: I will be punting a cat on press conference day. Be it out of joy or frustration, a cat WILL be punted.

Im pretty sure he is going to MSU, just makes the most sense.

You have to be careful with AU though, they flip a ton of prospects on official visits and the QB situation is very similar to MSU.

...a QB coming in to play 2 years, & he is already sending out a decree he will not tolerate platooning?

Wow, Newton really seems like he will put the team first, doesn't he?

What is never mentioned in these "Cam Newton is God" threads: This time last year, the same hysteria surrounded the signing of Tyler Russell.

But the sixpackspeak.com paparazzi has now dropped Russell & moved on to taking adoring snapshots of Newton.

Newton is an egomaniac who brings to the table an intrusive, star-drunk father & a checkered past.

If Newton signs with MSU, it will be interesting to see who the first sixpack poster will be to attack Newton after Newton begins to show his true colors.

Many Rebels have been trying to convince themselves ever since we hired Mullen that he's the second coming of Orgeron. This is just one more weak attempt by them to do that.

I honestly believe he is only enjoying his recruiting like his dad said he is doing. Like someone said, this is the only time he will have power to do what he wants with no one else controlling the situation. Hard to know what platoon QB means but it could point to any of his top 3 teams. I just like that his parents only visited us out the top 3, and that Auburn sounds like an after thought leading up to his visit there.

I think he still commits to us, and he's just had fun with the show.

If recruits truly do read these websites, then show yourself Cam Newton. Announce your intentions to the world right here on the 'Pack.

I find it odd that you or your fanbase would even care.

I don't care if your fanbase hates Alabama more than Ole Miss.

Why do your fans care if we hate LSU more or less than MSU?

We should just stick with true character kids who have choices between UAB, Tulsa, Millsaps, Belhaven and MSU. These top rated recruits egos are just to big

You don't think Mullen could be helping to create this frenzy over him knowing that Newton is coming to State do ya?

I mean I've got to look at Mullen's history here. If Cam really is a ME, ME, ME player, it goes against the history of what Mullen has molded into Heisman candidates over the years...Smith, Tebow.

I think it could be an act, but at the same time could Mullen just be desperate to get a high rated QB like this to come to a place like MSU no matter what the attitude?

I know we have had our differences in the past, but Im with you on this one, MSU should pass on Cameron Newton.

You're right. We have such a storied history of QB development and currently are so deep at QB that we have the luxury to turn the Cam Newtons of the world away.

...I think it's a mistake at this point.

Once people get past 6'6, 245 and take a look at who this guy really is, I think it becomes obvious he's not exactly what you want in an SEC quarterback off the field.

because it would have really sucked getting your *** beat as bad as you did by MSU if we were your rivals especially during your championship season with your greatest QB ever. I bet seeing "From Dixon with love" would have stung a little had it been a rival game.

Please, let us in on who Cam Newton really is. I see a guy with all the tools to help us win RIGHT NOW.

All this "losing Brunetti by signing Cam" stuff is ridiculous. Barry Brunetti is a few years away from being ready to start in the SEC. I'm pretty confident in saying that if Cam comes in and wins some games and puts up good numbers there will be plenty more Barry Brunetti-types for Mullen and staff to pursue, and they'll probably be more willing to listen at that point. I'm also not sold on this being an either/or situation.

I think MSU is just as much a rival, if not moreso, than LSU.

I just think it is silly that MSU fans try to paint LSU as some silly Ole Miss fan fabricated rival.

Its not like we picked Michigan or Texas or SoCal or Penn State and called them our rival...its a program we have played for decades, a program in the next state, and a program that we have battled for championships (pre-segregation, of course). Its pretty much instilled in young OM fans growing up to hate LSU, and I have some LSU friends with some strong hatred for Ole Miss as well.

Simply a discussion, no care one way or another...just trying to understand your fans' thought process on the matter.

No matter what you told Newton. It's not lying to tell Newton if he comes to MSU he'll be the QB. At this point, that's not a lie. As Coach34 points out, Newton is right now by far the better QB. It would be a huge shock to see Russell beat him out. But if he somehow does, you simply tell Newton that the situation has changed.

you still play Cam over Russell? I hope they told him with our situation at QB you have a great opportunity to be our starting QB. I'll be glad when he signs with whoever. Getting a little tired of his 'it's about me' comments.

are not as good as Newton. Newton is coming here to be the starting QB for the next 2 years and if he signs, he will be. All you guys thinking Russell somehow has a chance to beat him out are kidding yourselves- Newton is Russell with speed and more experience.

You do realize that is the media and all these quasi-journalists at Scout, ESPN and Rivals that are driving this hype machine right? Throw in the incessant discussions on the message boards and you have a frenzy. I don't take issue with anything Newton is saying. Dude was one of the top QBs coming out of high school and gets tucked behind possibly the greatest college QB ever. He has considerable talent, but he knows there are other very talented players out there (he saw it first hand at UF) and he doesn't want to risk the only 2 years he has left AND his ONLY opportunity to make any money at the next level.

I don't blame him at all. I would be saying the same thing. Basically, all he has ever said boils down to this: I really want to play, and one day I want to play in the NFL. I am just looking for the best opportunity to do that.

It is similar to the Favre situation and all the people that are frustrated about him constantly changing his mind about retirement. It is the media driving that circus, then they turn around and talk about how tired they are of talking about it. Well don't. Quit flying Rachel Nichols' *** to Hattiesburg. How can you blame a guy struggling with whether he has anything left, needs to spend more time with family, wants to go out on top, still loves to play the game, etc.

I am not anti-media, I am just anti-people that don't acknowledge that the player is not asking to be interviewed. Guy gives an honest answer and he is considered a primadonna. Sorry for the rant, but I think many of you are wrong about this.

he does seem a little self-centered, even in those.

A little can be a good thing at QB and too much can be a terrible thing. Good thing is, we'll get to see how he handles it at the next level either way.

"Come on, 'rook... show us that million-dollar arm. 'Cause I got... oh yeah, I got a good idea about that five-cent head of yours."

Look... I'm not going to get into a pissing match when it's impossible to prove which one of us is right.. But to me, Newton's actions and comments off the field throw up a lot of red flags when you're considering a guy you want to be a quarterback.

On both points.

Im hoping MSU passes on Newton and fires Stans. Normally those two things would be solely the opinion of a Rebel, but lately MSU fans are forming these types of opinions.

And I would argue that he has already handled it at the next level. He was apparently the model backup at UF. Mullen obviously thinks highly enough of him to bring him in after being very close with him during his time at Florida. With Russell on campus, do you really think he would risk destroying team chemistry by bringing in a player with a bad attitude?

two years coaching the guy. Do you really think he would bring him in if he had a serious attitude problem? Megan Mullen loves the kid. He was a frequent house guest when they were in Gainesville.

Graddawg is right on this one. And the reason is simple. LOOK AT WHAT MULLEN DID WITH LEE AND RELF AT THE HELM. Newton is bigger and faster than Relf. "Nuke" has a cannon for an arm. We are not predicting a Heisman candidate here, just (given what we saw this year) someone that Mullen can use effectively to make this offense really hum.
