Congrats to the kid, signed a 2yr, 4.5M fully guaranteed deal today
Never thought he would make it despite his shooting ability. Does so many things well but thought his quickness would stop him from making it.Congrats to the kid, signed a 2yr, 4.5M fully guaranteed deal today
That’s the old nba. With the 3pt shot so important, there are quite a few guys like Spencer in the league. Shooting is more important than ever.Never thought he would make it despite his shooting ability. Does so many things well but thought his quickness would stop him from making it.
I really don't need to spell **** out for people, everyone on this board (or everyone that will be on it) knows who Cam is. They'll have their thoughts whether I call him Rutgers grad or not. To me, the kid spent as much time at RU as Dylan and Ace, and was just as good of a player on a better team. I'm happy for him, despite wishing he had stayed that second year.If you wanted a chance for this to be positive, you might had said Rutgers alumnus, Cam Spencer. Otherwise honestly it is interesting but as the first thread it feels like trolling, intended or not.
There are certain " fans" on these boards that relish the negativity towards RU. It's obvious and honestly if you " love " RU you'd never go out of your way to post the crap they post. They get their rocks off attacking the school and not to make anything better.I'm happy for him and mad at him at the same time. I didn't like what he did or how he did it. I did like how he played basketball.
The bulk of them are not actually Rutgers fans.. they are anti-Rutgers fans.. maybe because they couldn't get in, or they resent their taxes allegedly going to Rutgers sports.. a competitor to their favorite teams.. I think that's the bulk of them.. NJ residents who are fans of SHU, Nova, UCONN etc in basketball and wherever is a frontrunner in football in their youth.. Notre Dame, Penn State.. we even have Syracuse fans resenting Rutgers,There are certain " fans" on these boards that relish the negativity towards RU. Cam deal renegotiated:
$10.5 million, 4 years, 3 years guaranteed.
Not bad for a slow guy who can't create his own shot.
I insisted Cam left Rutgers primarily to improve his chance at an NBA career, with money as distant second priority.
Cam made the right decision evidenced by the indisputable historical fact Cam won a NCAA national basketball championship and signed a multiyear guaranteed NBA contract. Neither would happen if he stayed at Rutgers.Cam's brother did not like how he was used at Rutgers. Pike did teach him defensive fundamentals that rounded out his repertoire.
The fact he next as he did, the day after representing the team at a fundraising function, to go to Gtown tells a different story, Koko. He may have ultimately chosen UConn for that reason but it was not why he left.
And the end justifies the means.
He chose to leave with the intention of going to Georgetown, which would have been no better for either his NCAA chances or his NBA prospects than Rutgers. UConn was a later opportunity.
And just to bring us back to the facts, something you usually are very good at, his multi year contract was not earned via UConn. It was earned due to his performance in the NBA ecosystem. Which he also could have done from Rutgers.
You are saying something that feels real, but is not. Truthiness, not truth.
Why did Cam leave LOM afyer 3 years there ?? > he probably felt transferring to Rutgers would be better for his basketball career goals.Cam made the right decision evidenced by the indisputable historical fact Cam won a NCAA national basketball championship and signed a multiyear guaranteed NBA contract. Neither would happen if he stayed at Rutgers.
Why did Cam leave Rutgers? Cam wanted a NCAA championship and the NBA. He got both.
[I edit - the screens were designed to free up Spencer, but not always for 3 point shots: Many teams defend the high screen at the 3-point line with drop coverage - leaving the dribbler open for 3 p teams NEVRE did that against Spencer - for obvious reasons. What the clip does show just how may screens were run for Spencer in general - like almost every play .. but it does not show how aggressive teams defended the screens only at the 3-pojnt line that prevented 3's]Sad for Rutgers, Cam made right choice to leave for $$$ and national championship. He was able to shine more with better players and coaches around him at UConn. I cannot remember Pike ever running Cam off a screen for an open 3 pointer. Good for him that he worked to get an NBA contract. As I think about it, he would have been a great complimentary piece off the bench for the Knicks, like a TJ McConnell for Indiana but way better shooter.
That’s why most sites have subscriber only boards. When you freeload, you live with the riff raff. For years, this site, under various management, has allowed pretend Rutgers fans to bash EVERYTHING about Rutgers. These jerks are actually fans of other schools. Some are on here EVERY day.
People don't seem to know the difference between not running an offense and running an ineffective offense.I do know from as reliable a source as there is other than the Spencers, that his brother did not like how he was used. That said, the myth that Pike didn't run an offense remains a myth.

Then you need to work on improving your memory or you will have cognitive problems for years. RU ran tons of screens for Spencer - including off-ball screens. The off-ball screens, especially doubke screens, were for open 3-poingters
Standard revisionist history designed to support the anti-Pike agenda from way too many on this Board.
See this 25 minute highlight clip:
I chatted the highlights and stopped at the 7 minute mark of the clip there were so many screens set for Spencer. There were 2 primary types of screens set for Spencer:
1) High on-ball screens at the top of the key/3-point line, usually Omoruyi with Spencer as the dribbler, a screen and roll designed to make the defenders make a choice, leading either to a mid-range or mid-range post jumper by Spencer or a pass to Omoruyi for the dunk - or occasionally a pass to the wing for Hyatt or Mag 3-pointer.
2) Off-ball screens with Spencer coming from the baseline, and curling into the mid-range. A forward or guard,, like Mag or McConnel, or sometimes Rieber, would set those screens often.
I know the difference between making a wide-open shot or layup and missing a wide-open shot or layup.People don't seem to know the difference between not running an offense and running an ineffective offense.
