That Matt's record is now 66-61 in 10 years of college coaching. If he can go 120-0 over the next 10 years, he will only be 1 win shy of his hero Joe Paterno. How cool would that be?What do you find interesting?
Where in kkk? Most wins by a head coach in 20 seasons
1. Tom Osborne 195 wins
2. Nick Saban and Bob Stoops at 191 wins
3. Joe Paterno and Dabo Sweeney at 187 wins
I guess what’s interesting to me is that he had already achieved that many wins without a national title. What do you find interesting?
Oh is that how many wins they had in their first 20 seasons as a head coach? He was a great coach for sure.I guess what’s interesting to me is that he had already achieved that many wins without a national title.
Not how I read it initially, but he did win 60 his last 5 years, so it adds up!Oh is that how many wins they had in their first 20 seasons as a head coach?
Yeah I should have made that clearer. He was a great coach for sure.
All good, even more impressive that it was first 20 years, and not including the finish he had!Yeah I should have made that clearer.
Which is why when Dabo surpasses him in a season or two there should be an asterisk.TO didn't coach in an era where there were 12 reg season games, plus the extra playoff games
That’s not surprising when you keep hiring .500 or below coaches. Here is another fun stat! Nebraska has not had a winning conference record since 2016. Only Maryland and Rutgers have gone longer without a winning conference or at least .500 season in conference play. Maryland was .500 in conference in 2014 their first year in the Big Ten and Rutgers has never been .500 or above since joining the Big Ten.
Yeah we were lucky for sure. The culture that he took from Devaney and built into that dynasty likely is gone forever, but it was a fun run.Oh is that how many wins they had in their first 20 seasons as a head coach? He was a great coach for sure.
Not in the least. What Dr. Osborne accomplished in Lincoln Nebraska stands alone.Important context being that Saban never took over a team with a winning record the prior year.
Love Tom but Saban put an end to the discussion pretty definitively.
Yes, for Nebraska coaches. Not in the least. What Dr. Osborne accomplished in Lincoln Nebraska stands alone.
I know the last several decades have been tough for us, but I never thought I'd have to defend Tom Osborne on a Husker board to Husker fans.Yes, for Nebraska coaches.
Meh. He took over a blue blood with very rich recruiting. Tom had to develop for three years to get players ready. I am a big Saban fan, but does he win that many games at NU? I suspect he doesn't stay long enough.Important context being that Saban never took over a team with a winning record the prior year.

saben had alot of under the table nil money, ask jimbo...not saying saben was a bad coach but the sec rolled a lil differentMeh. He took over a blue blood with very rich recruiting. Saban won 7 national championships, and a good number of those were over at halftime.ESPN influence can't be overstated. They rigged the preseason rankings each year so that Bama was protected win, lose, or draw. Every ******* team in the conference was top 25 before a ball was snapped every damn year.
Nebraska had/has to fight tooth and nail against media, conferences, dark money, regulations, population, demographics, officiating, etc, ad nauseum. There isn't a single human being out there that could have accomplished what Osborne accomplished here. He was 10 times smarter than anyone else in the room.
Its really not.Saban was gifted 7 national championships, and a good number of those were over at halftime thanks to rigged rankings, shadowy bag men, an exclusive recruiting showcase every single weekend on the world's largest sports network, all in the most talent rich areas in the country, and with a culture of compliance that would make the catholic church blush.
It's really not a debate.
If Saban won a title at MSU I would agree. I think there are many better football minds throughout CFB history than Saban. They just didn’t have the privilege of coaching at arguably the most corrupt football program in history.Saban won 7 national championships, and a good number of those were over at halftime.
It's really not a debate.
Let's be serious here.If Saban won a title at MSU I would agree. I think there are many better football minds throughout CFB history than Saban. They just didn’t have the privilege of coaching at arguably the most corrupt football program in history.
Osborne took over a better situation than Saban ever has.My wife's boyfriend is an Alabama fan
Osborne took over a better situation than Saban ever has.
Cry and piss about it all you want, the facts are the facts, and fans like you are why people make fun of us.
Every coach between Bryant and Saban was able to win 10 games in a season at some point in their tenure.Let's be serious here.
LSU was 3-8 the year before Saban.
Alabama was 6-7 before he took over, viewed very similarly to Nebraska in that they were a sleeping giant.
Osborne was the reason the situation in Lincoln was good based on the success he had as OC leading to a couple national championships. You really can't get out of your own way, can you?Osborne took over a better situation than Saban ever has.
Cry and piss about it all you want, the facts are the facts, and fans like you are why people make fun of us.
So this isn't a bit, you really are this stupidIf something like the LP incident happened in Tuscaloosa, no one would've ever heard word one about it.
Osborne took over a team that was pretty freshly removed from back to back titles.Every coach between Bryant and Saban was able to win 10 games in a season at some point in their tenure.
Oh so completely erasing Devaney?Osborne was the reason the situation in Lincoln was good based on the success he had as OC leading to a couple national championships. You really can't get out of your own way, can you?
And there is no "us".
Oh so completely erasing Devaney?
So Osborne is the sole reason for Devaney's Natty's, but took 2 decades to win his own?
Put the bottle down, Frank
