On the anniversary of the SixPacks birth how about some rumor spreading? Word is that Cameron Newton could be transferring here from Blinn JC. I personally would be thrilled if this happened. Who cares if the guy stole a lap top, threw it out the window when the cops came, went and picked it back up and tried to check his grades on line 5 days later with said lap top? Can he trow a spiral? Yes. Can he help us win football games? Yes. Sign him up.

After the "Mullen is after a big time QB from Florida" thread I did some asking around. I think the from Florida part of that rumor meant not the state but the university.

Is this some 6 pack anniversary horse ****? Is this real?

Of course, if this is real, he'll turn out to be our Shaeffer (meaning, of course, he would be no worse than what we've got).

Who cares if he stole a laptop, I remember when some of Jackies boys did the same thing out of one of the frat houses in 92 and threw them in Eckies pond. Jackie paid for the computers, brings them in chapter meeting to apologize and nobody cared all we wanted to know is were we going to cover Saturday.

I don't see how he could be eligible to play D-I this fall. He played in last year's season opener against Hawaii before the laptop incident.

I would be shocked if Newton does not come to State. It appears that Mullen has a strong bond with the family and has basically counseled them regarding Cameron's future to some extent. I think the only thing that would keep Newton from coming to State would be Mullen telling the Newtons that he would be better off somewhere else (which would mean that Tyler Russell will have broken all the freshman SEC passing records this year). That, of course, is unlikely.

Newton is a force and it appears the scenario has him coming in for the 2010 season, with 2 years to play 2. (Someone correct me on this if I am wrong, but I think he already redshirted). That would present a best case scenario of Russell redshirting this year, playing sparingly with Newton for 2 years and starting his Junior and Senior years, which would be awesome (as long as we can keep Russell happy during that time - but I think Mullen will get him plenty of snaps - even if Newton is there).

I am not going to guarantee he is coming to state, I just feel there is a very high probability based on things I have heard. Recruiting can always get sideways and you can lose a player, but even the article by Robertson a few weeks ago corroborates the fact that the Newtons have a lot of interest in MSU.

is that he was checking his grades. The guy was clearly concerned enough about his academic standing to go to great lengths.

I see nothing wrong with it.

1. Cameron Newton was interested in MSU out of high school.

2. He has strong ties to Mullen and his system.

3. Depth chart is friendly.

This guy could be the next overhyped thing from JUCO (Brent Schaeffer). The big difference is that Mullen personally evaluated him every day at Florida. If the guy sucks, Mullen already knows it.

I think the Schaeffer comparisons are invalid.

Schaeffer could have been successfull had he played for a coach that tailored the offense to his skillset. Mr. Square Peg/Round Hole 17ed him up by insisting we run a pro-style (USC) offense.

I believe Mullen would know how to utilize him should he come to MSU.

if Newton came here. It would give him someone to compare himself to and to compete with on a daily basis instead of having to compete with the collection of loosers we have at QB

And that is exactly what happened. The players at fault came in after dinner and appologized. Jackie shook hands with everyone. No big deal. These days, they would have all been arrested and kicked off of the team.
