Can this team win 10 games next season?

Anybody on here ever think they'd look at a UK football schedule and chalk Vandy up as one of a couple losses as opposed to one of a couple wins?

Seriously, I like our chances in every game and the trip to Nash could be a dog fight for the East because the dores have a favorable schedule as well outside of Bama.

UT and Florida both have LSU and Bama, gators have Aggies as well.

Not going to check the schedules, but how can Florida play three SEC west teams?\

A bowl game, lol.

I was talking about the 2006 season, which was the most successful under Brooks. Also, using takings at the time you play a team is an incorrect measure of how good a team is imo, especially if you play them early in the season. UL was ranked 9th when we beat them but finished the season 6-6. South Carolina was 11th when we played them and also finished the season 6-6.

I will stand by original post that winning 10 games next year in the regular season is a very long shot.

So your saying if a team lost their star qb and did not have an adequate replacement they are still the same team??

Or maybe your saying a team does not improve during the year or a team does not fall apart.

Its very interesting that you think this.

Counting wins over teams that out recruited us for the past five years is unrealistic.

The real question is, have we closed the gap enough to upset one of them at Commonwealth? (I'm looking at you UF and UT!) Only have done that once in the 30 years. In a "stars align" year we would upset them both. I'm hoping we do it in 2017.

I'm hoping we get 7 next season, and that is going to be tough.

Thank you for what I consider to be a realistic post.

I get a chuckle reading posts from my fellow UK fans: when things are going bad, UK football is the lowest thing on the earth (fire Stoops, fire Schlarman, hell fire the ball boy); when things are going well, UK football will beat just about everyone.

Folks, as talented as we've become, we are still towards the bottom of the SEC in talent and depth. As improved as our coaching staff has become, every SEC team has very good coaching staffs. We've close the gap considerably, but enough to be predicting 10 wins? Just how many SEC programs finished this past season with 10 wins? 10 wins in the SEC, even with a couple of cream puff OOC teams, is a very difficult task.

Love the enthusiasm, but don't set yourself up for disappointment. Before long, you'll again be wanting to fire Stoops.

Since neither South Carolina or UL lost a star QB that year, their 6-6 record is more of an indication of the type of team they were than the ranking when we played them. If I am wrong about either of those teams losing a star QB during the season, feel free to correct me.

Of course there are variables that can play a role in a team falling apart during the season. Sometimes (especially 2006 UL), the team is overrated in preseason polls. Kinda like Wisconsin claiming a victory against #8 Michigan State this year.

Before the season Ole Miss was a write off game ... now I'd guess they'll still be a solid favorite, but they ain't Alabama (who we're swapping).

It's early, but I'd say 10 is definitely in the realm of possibility.

Got their schedules mixed...

Florida plays LSU and Aggies.

UT plays Bama and LSU

...long story short, thanks to pulling the short straws out of the west Gators and Vols have the tougher SEC road next year which could open things up a bit more for us...

The best thing about our schedule next year is:
Florida @Tennessee
Tennessee @ Alabama
Ole Miss vs Arkansas

Those are the three opponents for UF, UT, and Ole Miss the week before they play us. They could be beat up a bit when we play them.

Just to clarify, Florida hosts Tennessee in 2017 at The Swamp. UK appears as the toughest true away game for the Gators next season.
UF only plays 3 true road games all season ..... @ Kentucky, @ Missouri, and @ South Carolina. The Gators open with Michigan in Dallas/Arlington, and has the annual UGA game in Jacksonville.
We host LSU, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, FSU, and 3 other non-conference games in Gainesvile.

Could we win 10? Yes, although we'll need a lot of improvement on the defensive side of the ball and we have some guys like Boom who might leave.

Yes - it may take awhile before folks fully grasp how good this team will be next year

Completely agree.

Defense is where we'll need the most improvement and is where I think we'll improve the most. Lost of returning players with experience in the front 7, and lots of seasoned talent returning in the secondary.

The best defenses aren't just talented, they're usually experienced as well. Depth and talent were much better this year and should be even better next year. Can't wait to see the redshirted players and West next year.

All that said, the offense should be potent enough to win 6-7 games with an awful defense. If defense improves like it should, watch out...
