Can we put an end to Frank Beamer as the "special teams guru"?

VT roughs the punter- leads to a Michigan TD<div>2 missed FG's</div><div>Fake punt on 4th and 1 from around the 50 with your punter instead of using your TB- who just happens to be one of the nation's better RB's</div><div>
</div><div>He just gave that game away last night and his team tried to bail him out all they could</div>

The missed FGs aren't on old Frank. Their starting kicker got arrested a couple weeks ago and kicked off the team and the back-up got sent home from the Sugar Bowl for missing curfew. I don't know who was kicking last night. I guess it's Frank's fault for recruiting thugs as kickers.

The rest of it, you're right. VT hasn't been special on special teams in years.

The fake punt at the 50 when your defense has been owning Michigan in the 2nd half may have been the stupidest call in the history of special teams. Sorry, but you don't get to be called the guru of special teams when you do **** like that. And I would still think it was stupid if he had made it. He handed Michigan 3 points at the end of a tight game. So stupid.

is letting the punter run for it. The better move without a doubt is to punt the football- BUT- if you are going to for it, let your badass TB run it or your 6'6, 245 lb QB hit it up in there...not a 17'ing punter<div>
</div><div>at least when Mullen ran the ball at Auburn we had the ball in the hands of one of our best players- Beamer's putting the balance of the game on a 17'ing punter is beyond stupid</div>

We had Depasquale and Egan who we couldn't count on as it was. If they had gotten suspended, what would we have done? Swedenburg? The fact that VPI had a third string kicker go 4-5 in the Sugar Bowl, his first four FGs of the year, was pretty impressive. It didn't negate the other things you mentioned, but the depth at kicker was amazing when you consider we can't find one guy to do it consistently.

He may look slow, but he's got some wheels. He's been VT's primary deep threat for a couple of years now. Beamer started letting Coale punt some as the year went on (he also punted in HS), because the other two punters had been struggling. He's also the WR who made the questionable "catch" in the endzone in OT which was reversed.

As for the kicker (Myer) last night, he may have been listed as 3rd string, but he's handled kickoffs all season long.

Didn't their special teams fumble a kickoff to give Michigan their field goal before the half? The fake punt was the worst callI have seen this year. The way Tech's defense was playingI believe they would have had the ball back quickly and could have one it in regulation.

it was him. It was the absolutely worst game coaching I have ever seen. He put his team in a position to lose the game several times and finally it did.
