What are your thoughts on the Cubs ruling out Ryno as a possible managerial candidate, and the Cards asking for and receiving permission to speak with him?

As a life long Cardinal fan I don't like it. It's because I grew up when Sandberg was in his prime, and I grew a severe dislike for him. Seeing him running my favorite team knowing his history will take a lot of getting used to. I'm sure some of the older Cardinal fans will feel the same. I think the Cubs should of hired him last season.

I'm okay with it. That's just the way baseball goes. I think Theo Epstein knows what he's doing. And until he proves otherwise, I trust his decisions.

Ryne Sandberg is my favorite MLB player of all time, not my favorite manager of all time. My only good option right now is to sit back and let Theo do his thing, and hope for the best.

Who is to say Ryno even wanted to be Cubs manager now after getting jilted for Mike 17in' Quade before the 2011 season? Besides, it is very likely the Cubs are about to hire a big-name manager and then some top-shelf free-agents in the next couple seasons.

I think it is straight up that Theo wants someone with managerial experience. I also think it is great that Theo called Ryno and talked with him after firing quade.
We want JOE MADDON!

I think Ryno is going to be a good manager, but I am pretty sure that front office can get someone with managerial experience to manage.
The cubs shouldn't be a first time hire for anyone Cub great or not. We spend more money on bad talent than anyone surely we can waste it on a top manager that is proven.

I think the cardinals talking to ryno is great. He deserves a look.
I think the cardinals just won a world series if they hire ryno, they busted bigger than ****.

Unlike MSU under LT, it would be immediately hire whomever Polk wanted no matter what.

Oquendo is sort of similar to Raffo in that the players like him and he has a lot of support from people in the organization. As a Cardinals fan, I am pro Oquendo. Difference is what the Cardinals are doing is working- which was one reason why hiring Raffo wouldn't have made sense for MSU.

That said, I think it is wise on their part to look at other candidates to make sure that there isn't someone better than Oquendo.

Personally, I think they are talking to Sandberg to rile up Cubs fans- as well as see if he is a viable manager candidate.

I think the Cubs are unwise to cut Sandberg off before talking to him. What's an interview going to hurt? The experienced managers all have to start somewhere after all.

But, even as a Cardinals fan- I liked Ryne Sandberg as a player. He's the best all-around second baseman I have seen- I never got to see Rogers Hornsby for obvious reasons. Him coming to the Cardinals wouldn't bother me, but it would be weird.

A quick survey of the last few WS teams points out exp managers are typically the way to go. Perhaps, when the new manager gets the team pointed in the right direction and RS gets more exp-they will hire him. Previous Cubs' admin kept their distance too. So, they know something.

I remember 1985 when Herr had 110 RBI's and 8 home runs- most of those driving in Vince Coleman, Willie McGee, and/or Ozzie Smith. The Cardinals jackrabbits.

1985, Damn you Don Denkinger.

We got Tom Brunansky for Tommy Herr. I liked Bruno, but agree with hating to see him traded.
