For the whole "Fant was the shittiest QB in history crowd" here's a sobering stat line and one that demonstrates what happens when you recruit OL after OL that you end up having to kick off your team or never makes it in school.

.....PLAYER ............SEASONS. PLAYS.. RUSH.. PASS.. TOTAL
1. Don Smith..........1983-86.. 1223.. 1868.... 5229.. 7097
2. John Bond .........1980-83.. 1237.. 2280.... 4621.. 6901
3. Wayne Madkin ..1998-01.. 1121 ....146 ......6336.. 6482
4. Kevin Fant ........2000-03... 635 ...(-207) ...5631.. 5424
5. Derrick Taite .....1993-96 ...924 ....173 ......5232.. 5405

Fant, not nearly as much. And Im not sure if they counted sacks against rushing yards when Taite was there.

here's a buy/sell. Our QBs collectively end up with negative rushing yds this fall.

I'll freaking buy.

..& the reason I am apart of that crowd is because, unlike you, I actually took the 5 minutes to research the roster.

And upon conducting my 5 minutes of research, I found MSU has around 14 OL on the current roster.

Now, there is currently a thread on this board talking about how Mullen is going into spring training with 2 QB & 4 WR.

So you do the math: If you are going into spring training with 2 QB & WR, and you are going into spring training with well over a dozen OL, where is the true need?

I had no need to look at the roster, as I already knew who our lineman are. You having to look up our roster and highlight the OL tells me that you don't know all that much about our team.

We could have 25 OL on our squad and if only a couple of them are SEC quality, then OL is a glaring need. My position is that we have two that could play on some SEC teams and several that couldn't play on any.

Now if you want to argue that I'm wrong, go ahead and amaze me with your insight. </p>

MSU has around 14 OL on the current roster.

The Kansas City Royals are set to invite 60 players to spring training. They're my new pick to win the World Series!

...on 2 points:

1st point: When you have around 14 OL already on the roster, you don't ignore severe needs like QB & WR & keep recruiting OL.

2nd point: The majority of our OL are either freshmen or red-shirt freshmen. (Again, you would know this if you would drop your gut feeling assessment & actually go study the roster).

And if you want to raise hell about freshmen OL not being able to dominate in the SEC, then you really don't know much about football.

Lastly, everybody praises the new coaches, but people like you still don't believe our coaches can take 16 OL (counting the 2 signed yesterday) & forge 8 of those 16 into SEC caliber players.

Any college coach that can't create 8 SEC level OL out of 16 to work with needs to be fired.

...Here's the gist: I bet nearly EVERY college roster has about as many OL's listed as we do. So why do some block better than others? Are you and Ronny saying it's all up to coaching? No God-given talent involved at all?

Just like the KC Royals will invite just as many players to spring training as everyone else. Think they'll win it all?

anything at all like this:
And if you want to raise hell about freshmen OL not being able to dominate in the SEC, then you really don't know much about football.
I'm of the opinion that one of the keys to rebuidling this program is quality linemen. I think we needed to sign at least two or three more this spring, redshirt every OL we signed and then hope some of them are good enough to play their second year. Maybe you've heard of David Stewart, how about Floyd Womack? Jesse James? John James? Bill Sartin? Jason Wisner? All of these guys worked their way into the rotation as second year players. We need these types of players.

Any college coach that can't create 8 SEC level OL out of 16 to work with needs to be fired.
If you've recruited 16 mid major types, then you'll end up with 8 mid major types on your line. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

we may have quantity, but we have very little quality. We need qaulity AND quantity.

And I'm all for taking away some scholarships from some quantity and giving it to some quality o-linemen.

Bingo. Just because they are on the roster, doesn't mean they can play. And call me crazy, but you can probably tell a lot more about a guy's ability by watching him play than by looking up his measureables on a roster or Bulldog Backer's fantasy page.

Case in point. Croom always seemed to have a number of WR's on the roster.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I see the point both sides are trying to make, but it looks like Syracuse has the same issues we do on the OL - not many upperclassmen and tons of young guys. So with that, how many OL did Syracuse sign yesterday? Isn't that what the argument is, that we should have signed more OL yesterday?

They, like us, did not recruit the ranks in a manner that have seniors, juniors, etc even. There are two seniors and a junior in that class.
