If Case Keenum is interested in throwing for 600 yards and 5 TD against us next week, he simply has to drop back and look for #42 in maroon and loft the football into his area. It doesn't matter if the reciever is 5'5....he will be open and will make the reception if Smith is covering him. This will be the easiest week of passing for Case all year. I have never seen a DB get burned so many times in a row. I would rather see Smith tackle the reciever as he blows by him and we can just take the penalty.

And yes, I created a profile to simply voice my opinion of how terrible Zach Smith is.</p>

to see how many old people, women, and children alike were standing up yelling things like "Don't bother to show up next week", "you're garbage!", and "get off the field" when he allowed that long pass late in the game. Gosh, he's garbage!

set by Houston's own David Klingler in 1990 against Arizona State. With a little help from Zach Smith and Damien Anderson, I bet Keenum could threaten the record next week.

that the crowd hates every year. Maybe it's Zach's turn. Deserved or not.

I think the real problem is we're asking Smith to do something he can't- cover people. He has value as a blitzer which is why I want to see him play LB in the future.

Next week, I think we need to either use Wade Bonner at safety or we need to really consider burning Thames RS. If he's going to be a safety anyway, we might as well go ahead and let him play if he can do a better job than Smith. It would probably make us more athletic at worst. I'm still holding out hope that Maurice Langston can play corner at an acceptable rate and allow us to move either Washington or Anderson to safety. Of course, that may not happen. Heck Tay Bowser has experience in the secondary, and he has been a non-factor in the offense. We might want to look at him to.

That may be true that Zach can't cover, but he brings NOTHING else to the table either. Anybody can play safety and be the guy that comes in and lays a lick as a player is being tackled by 4 of his teammates. Zach didn't do a thing in run protection either besides getting blocked at the goal line on the last TD run and getting run over 2 yards deep in the end zone on a previous TD run. So, if the guy can't cover and brings nothing to the table against the run, why is he out there????

He's adequate at run protection and blitzing. It's not fair to say he brings "nothing" to the table because it's simply not true.

I would start Wade Bonner and bring Zach in on nickel situations. Let him blitz or cover a RB or TE. Maybe he can do that without getting exposed too much.

I really feel bad for the young man.

He's getting a free education to do something that he's really not all that good at. He probably gets a fair amount of tail because of it too. We should all be so lucky.

Did you see the game at all? #42 was responsible for at least 2 if not 3 TDs on his own. If you can go look at the game tape and say that he belonged on the field at all yesterday then you must be related to the poor young man.

He's just not a SEC football player. He needs to be at Delta State or somewhere. Hell, maybe not even there.

...since he made easily two of the most retarded plays I've ever seen a player make yesterday. Two plays, by the way, that have little or nothing to do with talent level and everything to do with just being stupid. Giving up a TD pass on 3rd and goal from the 21 by going for the ball instead of covering the defender was #1. And then, allowing that long pass play that was essentially a jump ball. If you can't catch it, fine, but fight for it and bat it down. That's happened to him more than once this year.

He sucks. I don't feel bad for him. If anything, it angers me more about the Croom error and the fact that he didn't recruit anyone better.

I really can't remember a worse defensive back for us in the last ten years... Damien Anderson is challenging him but has not made as many bad plays in his young career.

He knew what he was getting into when he signed to come play here, and if he didn't know he figured out after he got hit by Brandon Lafell.

Odell "The Human Highlight Reel" Bradley.

NOW there's someone who brought nothing to the table.

for Milsaps.........maybe but i doubt it.

You see what happened with Zack Smith is that he got a little playing time under Croom and he ran around the secondary 100 mph (while the receiver he's supposed to be covering is doing jump-and-jacks in the endzone) and hit one or two WR's really hard....after that everyone thought he was gonna be the savior for the secondary and in reality that's all he can do. All he is good for is one or two big hits a year, and they are usually on defenseless recievers running across the middle. He would get exposed playing safety for Missississippi Valley just as he is here at State.

...is that he has terrible "ball skills". Both plays the other night that we have referenced he was in position to make the play and didn't. That has been his MO all year. He can get there, or he can run with somebody, and then he still doesn't stop them from making the catch.

On 3rd and goal from the 23, he should have just gone for the kill shot instead of trying to deflect that pass.

...I sense a feeling of desperation in your post. I feel it too. Our secondary is a LOT worse than I ever thought it would be. They get burned deep all the time biting on run fakes, they can't make an open field tackle to save their lives, and they are out of position on almost every deep ball thrown. They are either lousy athletes, or have had poor coaching, or both, but I don't think they are all lousy athletes.

He is almost solely responsible for the 93 yard punt return against LSU. He had both hands and arms on Jones inside their 10 yard line and slid right off him. If he can't tackle another safety what makes you think he can take down a RB or TE that is probably 30 lbs heavier?
