Riverhead Vs Essex this will be a good game early but late third/early fourth Quarter riverhead will wear down Essex and pull away riverhead by 2 tds

Hurley Vs PM Hurley wins at home if Pm held the home field probably would pick them Hurley in a nail biter 28-20

C Lunenburg Vs AltaVista

My guess is AltaVista wins on the road by 3 tds

Hurley going down ! They are big and have beat nobody !
Xcross, please inform me what powerhouse team that PM has beaten this year. There's a reason that PM at 9-1 only got a number 6 seed. The only team that they played that has been worth anything has been Buffalo Gap, and we all know the outcome of that. If you're hanging your hat on the Fort Chiswell win, that's pretty bad because I saw them firsthand at the Twin Valley jamboree. They didn't impress me at all. Hurley was the only dominate team there that day out of all the teams there. The Hurley team that beat PM last year is basically back with several new additions that are awesome. If PM should beat Hurley at "The Cliff", I will pull for them the rest of their journey. I for one will be at the game along with The Rebel Nation to give PM a proper "Rebel Yell".

Buffalo gap barely beat Brunswick this past weekend I hope PM just had a bad game against the gap because Brunswick lost to just about every team in our district this year they only beat Surry 16-12 so I hope this isn't a reflection of how good PM really is please tell me PM didn't get man handle by buffalo gap it was just a bad game. what was the score?

Looking at match ups , I see PM Just getting by the Rebels in a low scoring contest ! I don't see the Blues in Salem . IMO , But thats why they play the game !

I will say Surry is one of the weaker teams in our district. By way of the transitive property(Former Math teacher in me) PM isnt that good. But they could be very good and both PM and Buffalo Gap may have had bad games. The thing is...its the playoffs and I heard somebody on one of the message boards say it earlier...it doesnt matter who had the better season bc all the that matters is who is better on Friday. Isnt this exciting? High school playoffs plus all the upsets in college yesterday. The beauty about high school and college...they are playing for the pride of their communities and their schools.

I know Sussex is keeping their eyes out for Luray. Thats not a bad ball club. Nobody is talking about them...they are good. Big with good speed and flying under the radar. They went into Northumberland and came out with a W against a good Northumberland team. Also saw them play Essex last year I think or maybe the year before and they were not bad Essex was just on another level. Watch out for LURAY. If Sussex Central doesn't come to play coming off of a bye week it could be upset city. I hope my young Tigers are reading because Luray is not to be taken lightly.

Numberld is a bad team with some great atheletes. Like many teams in the east, they lack fundamentals and discipline. Similar to Surry, and Franklin to an extent. As far as upsets, none of the games listed would fall in the category for me. Actually the only games I would be surprised by the outcome would be if Galax or GW were to lose

I am looking at matchups as well. This is the same group of players that beat PM last year at "The Cliff". It's the same group of players that went to Galax in the second round and gave them everything they could handle and more. It was neck and neck going into the 4th quarter. Hurley had a lot of their guys last year going into that game who were very sick. If I recall correctly, that's the same Galax team who went on to beat Riverheads and won the state championship. The only difference this year is that Hurley has an awesome new quarterback who allowed us to free up Zach to do his thing. They have speed to burn, "track stars" as I have heard mentioned on here. Hurley is loaded at the skill position. They can burn you through the air or on the ground. Pick your poison of what you want to try to take away from us. The line is as solid as you'll find anywhere. The only difference in last year's matchup and this year's matchup is that Hurley is much better than last year's team in every way except for one and the one area that they are weak in this year is a quick fix on special teams.

If they give Galax everything they could handle and MORE as you put they would've beat Galax and just so you know that was probably the worst game of the playoffs for Galax, I'm sure that some of that may have been due to Hurley but I still say that Galax just didn't play as well as they did the rest of the playoffs. I think Hurley is a hell of a team but I would about bet they haven't seen a team with the size, speed and the physical play of PM. I still think this game could go either way. Best of luck to both teams and may the better team win.

PM has added a guy in Jeremy Nelson who isn't too far off from being the all time leading rusher in VHSL history. That's a guy that PM didn't have last year but hasn't been mentioned on this thread. Either way I think it will be a great game. I like both of these teams and it stinks that one will have to go home after next weekend

Don't get your Fruit of the Looms in a wad. You might want to focus your attention on that powerhouse Fort Chiswell team coming up soon.

We certainly are focused in on PM. Galax didn't fair too well this year against Fort Chiswell if I recall correctly. Parry McCluer beat Fort Chiswell by 36 points, so they have our full attention.

I totally agree that it will be a shame that one of these teams will not be around in the third round. PM should be a 4 seed at minimum. They easily beat the #4 seed head to head. Hurley also feels slighted by the system, so both teams will be leaving it all on the field. This should be a great game.

Rebel Yell Id imagine the Hurley Linebacker crew will welcome them to the Cliff
I know they certainly welcomed Rural Retreat to ":The Cliff". Friday night. It was every other play that it seemed like a Rural Retreat player was being carried to the sidelines They got downright physical. I knew in the pregame when the Rural Retreat players were jawing at the Hurley players that they should never have awaken the sleeping giant. I think they realized that jawing was a bad thing to do once they got on the field.

It's my understanding that Rural Retreat made the comment that we haven't played anyone and that they have been tested. They didn't pass their test with flying colors. I'd have to give them a grade of a D- or F on that assignment. Keep on telling us about how we haven't played anyone because we still haven't played anyone. We played two 2A teams in the regular season and destroyed both of them. We mauled 2A River View in the preseason Twin Valley jamboree; easily handled 2A Wise Central at their football jamboree; and held high flying 3A Abingdon's offense to 0 points in a 7 on 7 preseason scrimmage at Honaker. We HAVE BEEN tested, but keep telling yourself whatever makes you sleep better at night.

I truly don't know who wins between Parry McCluer or Hurley and neither does anyone on these boards. I believe they will match up pretty close to 50-50. As far as last years teams compared to this years I can assure you both teams have improved a lot Hurley has added key players but so has the Blues. Special teams kept us in the game last year when I will be the first to admit Hurley was dominating line play. I can assure you we know Hurleys the real deal no matter what folks on here think. I just hope it is for sure a Saturday game so me and mine can attend. Win or lose we always bleed blue. Good luck to both teams play hard play well but most of all everyone stay safe.

Folks I enjoy reading your post, and seeing how much you support your schools. That is
Great. Those kids that are playing on Friday nights deserve your support, because they
Have sacrificed quite a bit everyday after school in order to provide us all as good a team
That they could put on the field.

I know very little about the East teams. I do know that Riverheads, Essex, Sussex, and
Colonial Beach all have field good teams. Now, as for the West, Galax, George Wythe,
Hurley, and Parry McCluer appear to be favorites in the West.

Those are 8 good teams. Hurley is going to be hard to beat at home. George Wythe has
The best team I have seen in many years in SWVA, and Galax is the Champions from
Last year. I know very little about PM, with the exception of their record and 3 good RB'S.

If I was to pick today, my Champ from this bunch, I could not do it. ANY OF these 8 squads
Could get on a roll, get the right breaks, and win it all.
There are other teams that could break through also. Fort Chiswell, Patrick Henry, Chilhowie,
And JI Burton are all proven squads. I am proud For every team that is still playing, and
Thanks to each player for their hard work and dedication this year.

There are no losers in this bunch. They all command my respect. They are all obviously
Coached well, or they would not be still playing. Best of luck to all teams Friday.

I don't get on here very often I just like reading all of the poster on this site. First and foremost I am a GW fan and I will always pick the Maroons over anyone. Now for this week's playoffs. I think that Hurley is a very good team you don't go 10 and 0 by luck. Ten teams stood in their way and they beat them all. Not many teams can say they are 10 and 0. PM is also a good team 9 and 1 this year. I think this is one of the better match ups this week. This game is a tos

Good read Chilwar. One team I'll add to the ones you already mentioned is Altavista. They are very athletic and physical and obviously have the pedigree. I know they have a tough game this week but honestly I could easily see them in the final 4

Hurley has to stop Nelson I've seen this kid before he can change a game quick. I don't know who will win this game but no one else does either. Iam going to go with PM 28 Hurley 24 because they don't kick the extra points. The winner of this game gets to come to Wytheville the following week to play my GW Maroons. Hope both teams come out of this game all in tack with no one hurt. Maroon and Gray for ever

you must be outside you mind yeah franklin has a bad temperament but as far athletes franklin standout further than a lot of teams they shot there selves in the foot with 17 penalties for 159 yards and the strip fumble but they gave the game away franklin is a good team with bad habits don't get it twisted

Seems to me that u are making excuses. Penalties and turnovers are apart of the game. I was at the game and honestly Charles city never gave up because franklin isn't really that good. As far as creating turnovers... Charles city has been great at doing that all year check the stats. The better team won and finished the game.

I think someone is forgetting about PM's linebackers. Cook, Wheeler, and Wheeler are very physical! I can't wait to see Justice come through head up on #50 from PM. That will be a train wreck for sure. Good luck running for those video game numbers on the Blues and good luck passing on them. You might get one in here and there but PM don't give up the big play. On the flip side I'm eagerly waiting to see the Rebel linebackers tackle Nelson head up! 6'2" 230 coming at you, going to be a great thing to see. PM has spent days weeks months in the weight room preparing for this game. I hope it is a great clean injury free game as well. PM has beat a 3A Rockbridge team who yes went winless but have great speed. Stomped FC need I say more on that. Dominated Covington twice with ease. Destroyed an Auburn team who narrowly missed the playoffs. Smoked a James River team with a spread offense and a line averages well over 275. Can't help we took all the air out of the teams that went 0-10. BG game was a learning process for PM yes they got beat. I personally don't think that Hurley has the overall team speed, depth, and physical play to beat PM this year. If they want to come close they better keep PM offense off the field. My prediction PM 46 Hurley 32.

Hurley has as good a football team as there is in the A1 State, in my opinion. I would think
What gives that team some pep, is all the trash talk about how they haven't played
a tough schedule and being such a small school. That is nothing but bulletin board material folks.

Hurley is due as much respect as any team still in the fight. And believe me, when the visiting
team arrives at Hurley, they will get all they can handle and more. Show some respect folks
For that small school, just as the East has for Colonial Beach.

Who has Shirley beat? Go jump off the cliff. Lol
