Which do you prefer?

I've always preferred the exposure of the ESPN night game over the Saturday afternoon game. Some people are out during the day running errands or doing chores, but alot of people I know settle in for the night game. I'm not sure how those numbers match up on ratings, but i'm sure somebody will look it up upon reading this to help us out.

I just like the night game on ESPN better whether i'm at the game or not. What say you and why?

People who follow college football recognize that the CBS game is the most prestigious slot for the SEC. Also, with regard to exposure, you can get Verne and Gary with rabbit ears and, let's be honest, not everyone in the county has cable.

However, if I'm going to the game I much prefer the ESPN night slot. The prestige and exposure is just a notch below CBS but the experience and atmosphere is way better.

who gives a damn about exposure.

I'm more into atmosphere in the stadium. See the UF game and the forthcoming Bama game as examples.

It has been great for us so far and it also brings Erin Andrews along with it. Hell we had the highest rating ever for a tv broadcast that involved our school this season due to it. I say ESPN just because of the increase in exposure.

For the reasons you said. Plus, look at the weekly TV schedule. There are usually between 8-10 games on simultaneously in the 11:00 and 2:30 windows. Once you get to 6:00, that drops to 3-4 games on. Much more likely that someone will be watching from outside the region at that point.

while people in the South may view it that way, and I know its the number 1 choice each week- but that's a 12:30 game on the West coast, and I think you are likely to get more viewers nationally with the ESPN slot...People I know almost never miss the night game on ESPN- yet have things scheduled during the afternoon all the time

ESPN's production is much better than CBS's. CBS is more interested in showing endless promos for their latest crime series or sit com than reviewing every play.

About the only thing CBS has on ESPN is cool bumper music after commercials.

does everyone get the CBS game? In other words, can an affiliate in Seattle show Mama's Family instead?

I doubt the 7 people in the country that don't get ESPN fall into our marketing demographic.

and fall baseball. But will make it to a night game or at least be able to watch. We have done the morning soccer game and fly low to Starkvegas many times for night games.

This is what I was referring to. As you can see from my post, I was just laying out the pros for each without taking a side. However, I do prefer the ESPN game.

For attending a game: 2:30

The reason for this being that you can tailgate before the game, tailgate after the game, and still have the night after

For watching a game on TV: The night game everytime

Its perfect. You're done for the day (hopefully) and can get more people to watch the game because they're hopefully done with their days as well. Relaxation, good food cooked, and drinks

You can't get much done on a Saturday if it's split up by the football game that you have to watch. If it's an early game, you watch and then go out and get stuff done, and if night game, you do your stuff first and watch later.

I don't disagree with that. I was just pointing out that more TVs in America get CBS than get ESPN. You are, however, correct that the vast majority get both.

More people watching at night. The 2:30 Central time is 12:30 Pacific. Not a good time.

....I would politely tell CBS to kiss my *** and welcome the Worldwide Leader.

It's sad when the opening montage on CBS has NO shots of any plays involving MSU because CBS has not broadcasted MSU football since John Parker Wilson's freshman year.

Because Charter sucks. Mrs. D@A and I recently built a new abode, and the street we are on, in the same neighborhood as where we had been living, does not have cable. I don't know of any developments or additions to existing developments built in the last three-five years in Auburn that have had cable strung to them. It's all satellite. And just for kicks and giggles, Auburn doesn't get any local channels over satellite.

b/c CBS's always has the marquee game. I wouldn't think their numbers would be as high if they were showing State-Florida or Ark-Georgia.

Exactly. I am sure that the ratings are actually higher for the CBS game because everyone can watch it. But there is one thing that ESPN has that Greg Grundle just can't compete with. Erin.
