CBS Article on how Stricklin pushed Kiffin to LSU

This isn't going to sit well with the Florida people who already have their torches and pitchforks ready.

Basically says Stricklin was not willing to give Kiffin total control, and was going to hire an NFL GM no matter who the coach was.

Article also says Kiffin would not be at LSU if Landry has not fired Woodard, who never liked Kiffin and would not have hired him.

"Still, Kiffin was well aware that he wasn't Stricklin's cup of tea, and the feeling was mutual. It was the kind of thing that could have possibly been overcome if there were no other options, but Ole Miss all but allowed him to do whatever he wanted in Oxford and kept giving him more and more resources to push the program forward. "He was never told no," one source said. Kiffin was concerned about Stricklin meddling and how they would mesh, later telling confidants he had a "weird vibe" about the situation."

One can take the cheerleader out of Mississippi State, but one CANNOT take the Mississippi State out of the cheerleader. #LT

Right. Until they realize they have to do whatever it takes to win, they'll never hire elite coaches and will either settle for up and coming coaches or mid tier without baggage.

This just keeps getting better and better. My favorite gold nuggets from the article:

They came in droves, speeding into the parking lot of the tiny University-Oxford one-terminal airport

wanted to believe Kiffin when he said he had changed and found happiness in their small Mississippi college town.

They believed a national championship was possible at Ole Miss and just wanted Lane to believe it, too.

He ultimately could never get there,

he said he'd risk becoming Mark Stoops
(If he stayed at Ole Miss)

He desperately wanted to win a national championship like his mentors Nick Saban and Pete Carroll, and believed LSU offered him a better chance to do so than Ole Miss. (Even after already being in the playoffs with Ole Miss)

After watching all this unfold I’d say Stricklin was pretty dead on as far as not trusting Lane. But it will all boil down to how Sumrall turns out. If he’s good, UF fans will forever be grateful after Lane spurns LSU for a NFL job in some years.

Would y'all trust Kiffin?

I loved this sentence: "One Ole Miss booster, who liked Kiffin and got to know him well during his time in Oxford, said of Lane: 'He needs something to chase. Once you have conquered all and there is nothing left to chase, it's time to go.'"

Conquered what? An outright SEC Championship? Playoff berth? Playoff win? National Championship? Lane now will have ZERO of those that he can directly credit to himself (though that won't stop him). He really was a perfect match for that delusional bunch of flag-waving, cold chicken-finger-eating neck-tards.

I think what he meant, either consciously or unconsciously, was that he had taken UMiss as far as he was ever going to be able to take them and it would be downhill from there.

I have a feeling LSU is going to be disappointed after it's all said and done.
Yep. Sometime in the next 5 or 6 years , either LSU will get tired of his attitude and constant drama and will fire him, or he will up and leave at the worst possible moment for them. Either way, I sincerely believe this is his last college gig.

There is a very good chance he wins big while he is there, but nothing is set in stone.

I don't think he's going to win any bigger there than he did at Mississippi. Granted, that's still pretty big. But it's not what LSU wants or expects.

To me the interesting part of this article is that Kiffin had been trying to leave Oxford all along. He tried to get the UF job a few years ago and also tried to go to Miami.

Shocker I know, but this completely contradicts the narrative out of Oxford. Dude was looking for an exit at every opportunity.

I imagine he was just watching the shitstorm of the last month, and said 17 this. Now, all this sideshow bs is all in LSU's corner.
