The reality is the CCL and the ESCC should merge, not just for the benefit of football but for all sports. These are schools with basic common interest and by going with one voice, it will be stronger.

The new CCL would allow for greater diversity in scheduling and would also provide a better fit for geography. You could also have divisions where regulation and promotion is employed to give balance. It makes no sense for LA to play Leo, as much as I respect what they do there, when they are a better competitive and geographic fit for St. Pats, Viator or ND. If the Fenwicks and Viators of the world are afraid to step up, then they are not really committed and the league will fail eventually, given the things that are stacked against them by the IHSA.

LA alsost left the CCL a couple of years ago because of the difficulty in logistics and geography. If one of the strongest programs in the league with a substantial demographic profile is considering it what is the struggling school going to do?
You might want to bring in some of the privates in the Metro Suburban East if Leo, St. Joe and DPP (even St L and St. I in a down period) need a division filled out. The easy play would be to divide into 4 divisions - Southwest, West, North, South (smaller schools).

Where would LA have gone?

I am not as plugged into Loyola as I once was in terms of my exposure to the athletic program, and this is the first time I have heard that Loyola was considering dropping out of the CCL a while back.

You ask an interesting question, though. If moebias is on target, where would LA have gone?

Well, if LA was thinking of leaving because of logistics/geography, then clearly the ESCC would not be an option as the same issues would be in place there with member schools as far away from Wilmette-based Loyola as JCA, Benet and Marist.

The only other existing conference option that would make sense from a logistics/geography standpoint would be the Central Suburban League.

Other options would have been playing as an independent, which would likely not solve the logistics/geography problem, or trying to convince some of the close-to-Loyola Catholic high schools (ND, Carmel, Viator, Pat's, Fenwick, etc.) to also break away and start something new.

Where would LA have gone?

they explored the CSL

I did not like the move, but it did happen. LA had a Friday night game in a spring sport last year, the bus left after school and it arrived at BR at 10 til 7. Many times schools travelling from the southside have been delayed and have arrived after the scheduled start time. Logistically it is a challange
