The 5 Nagurski Finalists were named by the FWAA today. I put the press release on my site if you want to read about the finalists. Maybe Scarlet Nation could have a lively debate on who should win.

Duke safety Jeremy Cash, Clemson end Shaq Lawson, Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich, Penn State end Carl Nassib, and Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland have been named the final competitors for the award, which is handed to the National Defensive Player of the Year.

I tend to lean towards guys from smaller schools as far as these awards are concerned. If you take Ragland off Alabama or Lawson off Clemson, their defenses are still going to be really good.

I'd vote for Matakevich based off of that.

I'm hoping very much for Matakevich, and he 'd be very deserving. Nassib is a heck of a story, too, though. Walk-on to leading the nation in sacks, with 15.5, I think.
