With Butler and JR out today, I think we may see more of Chandler and I think he does well- he was out of basketball for 2 yrs on a mission and I know he hasn't played much but I see him being more confident each outing - before the season I read a lot about how good a player he would be- now is the time to show it

He plays pretty good defense and is very athletic and has size. I think he can be beneficial for us going forward playing against bigger guards

He is a 21 year old freshman. That's crazy.

Good passer, defender and rebounder for a frosh. Hope he sticks around and grows but wonder if he will.
He won’t leave pope. Unless pope encourages him to in order to see more pt considering the talent he has coming in and what might be with the portal

Chandler should have spent the two years off from basketball…….dribbling a basketball. His handle is his undoing. Effort is there, defense is there, I am confident the shot will be there.
I know nothing about Mormons or their missions, but wasn't he forbidden from playing hoops? Otherwise, I'm not sure that just standing there dribbling a ball would have made much difference.

He just got engaged. If his fiancee doesn't live nearby I could see him transferring.

I hope he's a 4 year player for the Cats it's a little hard to see right now but the potential is there.

This offseason the dribbling needs to be worked on 24/7

Rebounder and defender maybe, but other than a few passes here and there not good on offense at all. I hope as he gets more PT, that part of his offensive game gets better.

I have several friends who have experienced the regimen of a Mormon mission. It's a daylight to dark marathon ... "exhausting". To do it overseas is likely even more daunting. Nowadays, it is refreshing to see a young person so dedicated to a cause without any expectation of financial reward.

He is a solid defender but Pope has to be careful what lineup he has in when he decides to play him, that is one thing that concerns with coach. Seems he likes “everyone” to play but then we have some very head scratching lineups because of that philosophy and kills our momentum then our opponent goes on a run.

And I would not blame him a bit for not "practicing dribbling", then.

I hope he breaks out soon. He has the tools to be a good player. We need him now.

So your’re saying you don’t think non stop dribbling drills will help improve ball handling? Interesting

Exactly. Nothing like dribbling with threat of contact, someone up in your face. I find it interesting that you're worried about a thread regarding Chandler's dribbling, when there is an active game thread.

He needed a Redshirt year, but the problem is he already should be a JR. It’s an odd thing with the Mormon mission time & being away from basketball.

He looked good early in the year in exhibitions

Ok, so now that the game thread you alluded to should be slowing(the same one you came here to respond during I may add). Just to clarify further, your stance is practicing something (dribbling in Chandlers case) while not being able to play actual basketball for two years would have been completely useless. Just a complete waste of time? I’m not going to enter into a pissing contest because you can’t argue with nonsense. Do you honestly believe what you typed and can say practicing over and over something you are not great at will not make you better? Honest question, you been around the game much? Never set up the cones or trash can or whatever you have to pound the ball in dribbling drills over and over and over.? I wonder then how does one become better at anything in life in your opinion?

You're doing nothing but being a pest, and you should consider yourself lucky that I even responded to you the first time. Do you think he really had the time to even do all that, let alone the energy? Do you understand the Mormon mission? I'll answer those for you, nope. Good day.

I think the most he could do was just go out and shoot. I don't imagine he was allowed to be on any team that would take away from mission work.

Chandler strikes me as a dude who's gotten bored with basketball. He looks like he's going through the motions and trying not to mess up. Wouldn't be surprised if he quits basketball after this season.

I missed this thread. Can’t believe OP got so many likes for this take. Chandler made a life decision that dramatically impacted his basketball career. If he ever was going to be a legit D1 player, he’s not anymore.

Yep and clearly the worst scholarship player by a wide margin. Ill never understand pope's infatuation with Chandler trying to play point. He cant dribble, cant shoot, and makes weak passes around the perimeter.

Hes ok on defense but so bad in every other facet, hes just unplayable imo. Given hes 21 already, im not sure he will ever significantly contribute here.

This is so accurate. My biggest gripe isn’t Chandler. To be this bad after not having played in two yrs is COMPLETELY understandable. What isn’t completely understandable is Popes continuing to give him time. Brad gets roasted on here for his “Earned Not Given” tat, as he should. Every effing time Pope puts Chandler in, that phrase goes through my mind. It’s so frustrating. The 5 mins he played last night cost that game.

Not going to debate Chandler's playing time, but that last sentence is about as ignorant a take as you'll see on this board unless you only watched that 5 minutes.

He played 5 mins. Go back and find the score when he entered and the score when he left. And he was directly responsible for 2-3 lost possessions. Just because he wasn’t out there to shut the bed with the other guys in the last 5 mins doesn’t matter. Texas went on a run, in large part, because he wasn’t on the court. And it happens damned near every single time he steps on the court.

Double down if you wish. Still an ignorant take to say he cost us that game, Maybe you should watch it again.
We were up 41-37 at the half but somehow, he cost us the game.
