I have heard some opinions that it will reduce the amount of time between end of school and game time. Travel to and from school is a consideration and schools in this region cover a fairly large area so typically a lot of players do not go home and return. So 30 less minutes to keep them occupied while waiting. Also with games now running in the 2 and 1/2 hour range maybe the feeling is that it is better to get everyone home 30 minutes earlier. That is just speculation on my part.

Charlotte-Meck schools have done 7 pm Friday kickoffs and 6 pm JV kickoffs for the past 5 to 10 years. I think Raleigh does 7 pm Friday games too. Yadkin Valley 1A went to 7 pm Friday night kickoffs this past year too, and I think the Rocky River Conference may have done the same. Looks like it's the trend of the future.

Way back when I played, all varsity kickoffs were 8 pm. Of course, the games seldom took over 2 hours then because nobody threw the ball much.

The games are getting longer and longer. It also seems every coach wants that 20 minute halftime even when nothing special is happening at halftime.

Cape Fear Valley 3A and the Mid-South 4A did 7:00 p.m. kickoffs last season.

makes it hard on the working man/wife to get off work, eat supper, pack up & get to the game for a decent seat by 7:00. But many places have hamburgers, hot dogs or pizza that a family can eat albeit expensive.
