Pay no attention to the man behind the curtainThere is nothing in their history post CCP that supports them being able to pull this off. I could be wrong but I'm calling BS.

There are examples of lying and stealing in American culture - corporate, political, and in general - but I think its a stretch to compare it to China. I don't think anyone who has ever dealt with the Chinese in the business environment would say that..My initial comment on this topic was in response to the observation that lying and stealing are seen as virtues in China.
I think both of those thing are celebrated in US culture too, and could confidently supply years and years of examples.
Successful lying and successful stealing are celebrated by promotion, compensation, and election.
Whether its lying thru omission or intentional obfuscation in order to get an agreement, or telling someone lies to get them to do what you need while valuing the short term over the long term, or taking information created by someone else and passing it off as your own or using it instead of doing your own work - successful lying and successful cheating are absolutely celebrated in the US.
They are valued characteristics because we have, in general, allowed results to overshadow ethics.
You are talking about IP and I am just talking about perspective and ethics.
This hasn't been my experience at all. What do you do for a living? My initial comment on this topic was in response to the observation that lying and stealing are seen as virtues in China.

Again, I am not comparing the two by claiming they are equal. I have repeatedly said they are not. There are examples of lying and stealing in American culture - corporate, political, and in general - but I think its a stretch to compare it to China. Nancy Pelosi's Husband Sold a Boatload of Nvidia Stock Right Before It Was Eviscerated by Chinese Startup
Some shrewd investments are paying off bigtime for the congressional Democrat and her venture capitalist husband.futurism.com
On New Years Eve, recent SEC filings show Mr. Pelosi had sold off roughly $24 million in Apple stocks and about $5 million in Nvidia. Weeks later, the venture capitalist placed a bevy of call options — an agreement that grants the right but not obligation to buy stocks at a predefined price — on companies including tech startup Tempus AI, energy company Vistra Corp, and known tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Nvidia.
You insufferable insolent 17 wadFrom the article...
I really dislike the idea of legislators and relatives profiting from insider knowledge. I would welcome meaningful restrictions that would help ensure this is no longer a concern.
With that said, your article looks to be barely applicable to this conversation, and that is being generous. The guy apparently sold some stock four weeks ago, and the amount of Nvidia stock is really quite small.
it was four weeks ago.
It doesn't matter what the sale is compared to his wife's salary. You are making that comparison to try and frame the sale as massive. You insufferable insolent 17 wad
I’d say 5 million bucks of stock is not small.
When the sum total amount of ONE sale of NVDA is equal to 28.7 years worth of your wife’s salary as a congresswoman, I’d say it’s not only relevant to the conversation, it speaks volumes to the disconnect you have from reality.

So, you think a 4 week heads-up from the CCP is inconceivable? Why??It doesn't matter what the sale is compared to his wife's salary. You are making that comparison to try and frame the sale as massive.
If they are worth nearly 1/4 billion, then a $5MM sale isn't huge. That was my point.
The Apple sale which took place at the same time was 5x larger.
Set the size of the sale aside. Whether it was big or not- set that aside.
Think about the timing of the sale. It was 4 weeks before the stock tumble.
Are you saying he knew the stock would tumble 4 weeks in the future because his wife is a Senator?
Again, I don't want legislators to profit off of inside knowledge. Is this really proof of that though? It was 4 weeks before the announcement.
We should all be so lucky as to make $5 million and it be considered chump change. So, you think a 4 week heads-up from the CCP is inconceivable? Why??
On second thought, you’re right. It would have been much more inconspicuous if Paul had just waited to sell until the day before the stock dropped.
I just now realized I got sucked into arguing with a moron. The fact that a congresswoman and her husband are unabashedly worth a quarter-of-a-billion is the side-note in your mind says it all.

It is not chump change and I did not suggest or say it is chump change. $5MM to me and most others in this would would be life changing in size.We should all be so lucky as to make $5 million and it be considered chump change.
How dare you try to blemish such a quality person’s impeccable character.***
“the amount of Nvidia stock is really quite small”.It is not chump change and I did not suggest or say it is chump change. $5MM to me and most others in this would would be life changing in size.
It is about 2% of their reported wealth, so it isn't as massive as another poster is trying to claim.
Also, the Nvidia was 16% of the total sale that day, so it was a small part of the sale.
$1 billion of $10 trillion is really quite small.“the amount of Nvidia stock is really quite small”.
“Really quite small” = “chump change”
You indeed suggested it. You deny it and yet still try to justify it with your f/u comment.
$1 billion of $10 trillion is really quite small.
$1 billion /= chump change.
This is such a dumb thing to get stuck on, but here we are with you outraged.
Meanwhile, there is 0 actual known connection between Paul Pelosi's sale and what a Chinese company announced 4 weeks later.
Will you get all outraged over the lack of a known connection?...nah, that gets a pass because glfr said $5mm is really quite small in relation to the overall sale amount and in relation to his net worth!
Gotta get outraged over what's important here!**
I am not saying there is nothing to see here, I am saying the article doesn't actually connect the sale with Nvidia's tumble 4 weeks later, and only offers up a suggestion of improper actions without proof.…Yet again.
I’m not outraged. I’m merely amused at you trying to “nothing to see here” with Pelosi of all people. You’re the one that seems outraged and I guess that’s to be expected when you realize you’ve been called out.
Nope and never did I claim I did. To not smell that fishy smell while looking at a dead fish is grade-A denial when that dead fish has made millions in the stock market while his wife is in congress.I am not saying there is nothing to see here, I am saying the article doesn't actually connect the sale with Nvidia's tumble 4 weeks later, and only offers up a suggestion of improper actions without proof.
That isn't journalism, it's just message board level 'news' where rumors are highly encouraged.
Do you know of an actual connection? Can you explain what benefit China got from letting Paul Pelosi know 4 weeks in advance?
If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck then it’s probably a duck. Unless your political ideology doesn’t recognize ducks, then it’s a unicorn fart!Nope and never did I claim I did. To not smell that fishy smell while looking at a dead fish is grade-A denial when that dead fish has made millions in the stock market while his wife is in congress.
Are you denying that there’s no credible connection between the husband of a powerful congresswoman and China? I’d say it’s plausible that there’s some benefit for China to give them a heads-up. But alas, you prove that the American public couldn’t care less.

I didn’t read the article. Didn’t need to. I’m going off your take and other posters’ takes. But you made a point to downplay how much money Mr. Pelosi made on the sale of the stock. That wasn’t “beside the point” and it definitely wasn’t “clearly”. It was a big point of your rebuttal to the article.I pointed out that the article does not show Paul Pelosi used inside information to sell Nvidia stock.
Instead of agreeing that the article doesn’t in any way show, there is a connection, you continually commented about a part of my post that was clearly beside the point.
If Paul Pelosi used illegal information to sell his shares, then he should be investigated and prosecuted. Thst article didn't make a case.
Thisnis one of the funniest things I have read on SPS on a long time.I didn’t read the article. Didn’t need to.
Ignorance? I’m not the one that said $5 million is nothing and then tries to crawfish. On top of that, you keep trying to change the subject.Thisnis one of the funniest things I have read on SPS on a long time.
