"Dan Mullen will be a great fit in Miami"...he said it probably 5 times in a row. It pissed me off.

Why would anyone want to leave an SEC school to go coach a mid level ACC school that averages 25k in attendance. Wow.

Mullen isn't going anywhere. Not this year...</p>

I'm sure their research tells them exactly that - that nobody wants to hear what he has to say. Yet they put him on anyway just to piss people. <div>
</div><div>MSU really does have an incredibly dumb fan base.</div>

He would. It just pissed me off how Herbie kept trying to stir the pot.

I hate being the little brother

We may lose Mullen for other reasons, but it sounds like Scott has made it clear that it won't be over money. That has definitely not always been the case with previous ADs.

Moving forward, we are also going to look at some ways to make sure he
is taken care of on the base salary. We are never going to lose a coach
because of salary.

That being said I heard my current and hopefully future head coach being praised on Championship Saturday Gameday where only a handful of teams are being talked about.

because of money can be interpreted another way. Specifically, a coach may simply not prefer to remain in Starkville regardless of the money, and may leave for other reasons. I had to say it because it occurred to me that it may be true. I'd like to think it wouldn't be true, but it's a distinct possibility.

that's true of every coach- unless you are immortal like Joe Paterno.

Regardless, every coach leaves for some reason- fired, retired, left for another school, etc.

but is it the right job for Dan Mullen? That's the main question and if I were Mullen - I would not take it.

Herbstreit had obviously prepared a little spiel on what a great hire Dan Mullen would be. But, as soon as he mentioned Mullen, Fowler cut him off by saying that MSU was going to pay him. So then Herbstreit was trying to figure out if Mullen was definitely off the table, or if he could launch into his prepared statement, so he wound up saying "Dan Mullen" 5 or 6 times.

There is a greay recruiting base and they have a history of National Titles...

But have you ever seen Miami's campus? Its ****
The stadium is an hour away
They average 25k fans per home game

Im not so convinced this is a GREAT place to be if you are a young and upcoming coach. Especially to a Mid Level ACC school</p>

at State, from what it seems, he's been given full reign over the football program without interference, he has the full support of and a great working relationship with the AD and the president of the university, the alumni and other fans are 100% behind him, he and his staff are going to get substantial raises and Misipi State "nation" is pretty forigiving when there's a bad season or tw...or three...that all sounds like a pretty damn good gig to me for the foreseeable future.

Mullen's goal is to win a national championship. He can do that a lot easier at Miami than State. I just think he will have a lot more prestigious jobs that will open in the next couple of years if he wants to leave. I hope he stays 20 years.
