I got to here Coach Mullen speak. Chris just handed me my box lunch. I was at Insurance day today at the Union. Damn that place has changed since I graduated. Here is what Mullen said. (paraphrase)

"17 TSUN!" I was socked but I thought it was funny. Just joking!

He did say some good things. (Paraphrase)

1. His attitude changed about the cow bell after Bell's mother ranged it right before the closed the coffin. Before he thought it was neat traditionand brought attention to the school. He did not know really what the bell meant to peopleuntil that moment and he is going to fight tokeep it. He also said that when the bell is not rung and everyone screams the stadium is louder then when it is ranged.

2. The move of the Memphis game is really going to help them. The reason why is that is three more days they can practice before school starts. He said a lot of schools have played two games before school even starts. Miss State start way sooner then everyone else and with school starting it interrupts practice those 30 days before the first game. Those three extra days of practice with out school will be great. It might have been thespin but that's what he said.

3. Reading into what he said about Bell, he and his wife paid for the funeral. Some of you might know that but it was new to me.

4. He thinks that players should not receive salaries. If you pay football players, you will have to pay every athlete. Most sports lose money and paying every athlete would kill the budget and many schools in smaller conferences will have to no longer have certain sports.

5. The transfer from Clemson will help give maturity at the linebacker position but he told him he as to be on campus June 1st and he is going to have to bust his *** to gain the respect of the other players and if he can't do that it is going to be tough on him.

6. He thinks we will be 2 and 0 going into the LSU game and we should be top 20 and LSU could be as high as number 1. Great attention to the University. If this occurs it will be good it is a Thursday night game. Again this could be spin.

7. His only concern about the offense is the O line. We all knew that. Not only did we lose two starters we lost three back ups. Two to graduation and one to injury. That is going to be hard to replace.

8. He said that there is 1000 people on the waiting list for season tickets. He then went on to say once there is 10,000 the stadium gets expanded. I hope he was generalizing making a point that season tickets builds stadiums.

He took several other questions but they really were not that important. I wanted to ask about the Tweet, message boards and face-book on how it affected recruiting but it might have been a stupid question so I did not ask. He is very approachable and seems like a common guys. I bumped into him on the stairs in the Union and talked for a few minutes but not about football. I should have asked him does he read the pack but did not. Sorry DS!

Great summary...here is other things I heard:

1) I think his biggest concern for this team is to keep them hungry and make sure they have a chip on their shoulder. He mentioned the lack of senior leadership to help out with this several times.
2) Someone asked about Cam Newton and he was obviously not happy to discuss anything about him.
3) He got a question about recruiting and the websites and he talked a good bit about what he looks for. He said he reads the write-ups on the recruiting websites, but only looks at the quotes. He said you could read a lot of information into whether they fit the program by what they say in these interviews. If they are talking about hard work and dedication, they have got the message from the staff and fit what we are looking for. He made it a point to say he knows he rubs some people the wrong way, but he is straight up with them and tells them it as it is.
4) Someone asked him what he thought about Jim Tressel. He said he didn't know much about the situation, but I got the impression he wasn't a big fan of what he did.
5) I was surprised how much time he spent with us, he fielded a ton of questions.

Said he tells his players to come clean when they make a mistake so that he can help. There's nothing they've done that he didn't do during his wild college years.

Unlike a lot of coaches he actually provides real content.

In case you haven't realized it yet, our coach is 17ing awesome.

It's almost a foregone conclusion. I've never heard the man talk smack he didn't back up. We have the experience, and we have a bigger window to get ready. And I really don't think Auburn's got the talent to beat our team if we're ready to play.

I just did not wan to drag my post out any longer. Your number two right on. He nipped that one pretty fast. You number five I was equally surprise. Hell I would have given up the rest of my CE credit for more of the QA. One other thing he said that he went to a Catholic high school.

I think that DM while recruiting intentionally presses recruits, finds out what they are made of, figures out if they will fit in his program.
If not, move on, we don't really need, nor want you, because you will be a waste of our time.
