I’m as festive as they come but the older I get, the more I despise putting up Christmas decors but hate taking it down (and putting in the attic) even more. It’s a pain.
I now understand why my grandparents had a simple artificial tree that was about the size and shape of a collapsed golf umbrella and maybe two Santa figures. That’s it!

I imagine when my kids move out, our decorations will be minimum

We have a deal at our house. I am doing literally anything but decorating when the decorating happens.

That is the process for Christmas, Easter, National Tell a Joke Day, and any other holiday.

I appreciate that the decorations make my family happy.

We don’t have a deal … I put it up, and I will take it down on Friday. If you guys can tell me how to make a deal … I’ll do it. And I will do Dukes Mayo if you can squeeze that in somehow.

I dated a girl in college, whose grandfather used a 4 foot table top tree. All ornaments (kids and grandkids stuff) were glued on.

He literally would unplug it, pull up a 55 gallon garbage liner over it, and walk that sob down to basement.

The older I get, the more I appreciate his style.

My wife and I agreed long ago that Halloween and Christmas are mine, everything else is hers. I put the decorations up, and I take them down.

I generally look at decorating the house for holidays, and just year round flower beds, bird houses, wind chimes, etc, like I do mowing the lawn (4 acres). I don't particularly look forward to it-but I want it done because I like the end result. And I often think if I don't at least initiate those things - my wife will never do them. And I want the place to look nice and feel seasonal. So, no deals here. I just do it or at least kickstart it.

We have a 12' tree that takes me and my son to tote down in 4 pieces, assemble and fluff a piece at a time and hope it stays together. We bring all the tubs from the attic, she decorates, we take the tubs back up, then start it all over in reverse this week. That damn tree has been up since Oct. 12, and I'm ready for it to go. All the other stuff too.

Having the house decorated for Christmas is one of my greatest joys. I want it to look like a hallmark movie threw up in the house. We got an extremely late start this year and didn't get to do as much as I wanted to. It was just a bad year this year. Hoping 2026 better all the way around.
Same here, but my issue was a new house. Plenty of decorations that didn't get put out because I haven't figured where to put them.

I’m at the point this year to just leave it up for the next 358 days
A house a mile from.me has one of those absurdly large skeletons...like 30' tall or whatever.
They got it for Halloween 3 years ago and never took it down.

They toss a pilgrim hat on for Thanksgiving, a santa hat on for Christmas, and an uncle Sam hat for July 4.

Do you live in Gautier? Because there is one there too and you forgot leprechaun hat for St Paddies day and bunny ears for Easter…

We’re fairly minimalist. I usually get all the stuff out of storage and she decorates. Several years we’ve forgone a big tree and just done a little tabletop tree. This year she ordered a set of three tabletop trees, the tallest about 3’ tall, and a few decorations sitting around. We were visiting out of town for the week of Christmas so we took it all down the day before we left town.

We have a neighbor that does the exact thing. That skeleton is 3 times as tall as their house. It’s crazy, but whatever. I can’t see it from my house, so it doesn’t really bother me

Same here. I avoid putting up and taking down Christmas decorations as much as possible, which is usually 100%. My wife has stuff all over the house - must have at least a dozen Nativity scenes. The cat likes to try to bat them around.

Ha. Well, that might be the way to do it. Saw an ad on television for a similar pop-up tree. Open it up and all the decorations and lights are there. Allegedly it's a simple process.

Christmas 2024 lights never came off the outside of our house--. Due to an injury and surgery limiting my ability to get on the roof until about April, then baby born early summer, and just generally not prioritizing it. Once August came, I just said forget it and left them up all year. I don't plan to do that again since several strands went out and the shingle clips dry rotted and strings fell. But I just wrapped them around the gutter or made them as visually hidden as possible haha.

In my parents later years they put the Christmas tree on a little plywood base with roller wheels. They would roll it from the den to a corner of the dining room, put a sheet over it, and a folding decorative screen in front of it. It went back and forth for several years that way. They didn’t use the dining room anymore anyway.

I can’t say that I hate putting up the outside decorations but I dislike it more and more each year. My wife is OCD with Christmas. The inside of the house has been fully Christmas since before Halloween. We had a weird combination of fall colors and Christmas decor at the same time. I have to give it to her, all of decorations are put up the day after Christmas.

See I am one of those who believes in giving fall/thanksgiving its time. I refuse to let Christmas go up at my house until after Thanksgiving. I know it makes a quick turn transition but I'm not hosting our big family Thanksgiving meal surrounded by Christmas decor. Just doesn't feel right.

The key is to make her think you are so incompetent that it will look like a monkey decorated it and bring shame on your family. I have been working very hard at keeping up this reputation daily for almost 20 years.

Burned a white shirt, hers, with an iron about 35 years ago. I haven’t touched an iron since then other than to work on it.
