There is a lot of smoke. Not necessarily from y’all but definitely the moment itself. Y’all are playing for win #50(?) in a row.. Yall are going for round 2 of 4 straight state championships.. Many people said Varina wouldn’t beat Huguenot or Dinwiddie.. Varina could easily get caught up in the moment but they’re not. I commend their staff and the leadership of the captains Kaleb Wyche, Dev Henderson, Bray Hood, Myles Anderson and Bull Richardson keeping them focused.
Look at the numbers, Huguenot was top 3 in the state and the #1 scoring offense in C4. I didn’t self appoint them as the best offense.
They ran up the score against chumps bro. You seen what happened when they played a good defense
Experience will be a factor. Phoebus has been together in these type of games with the same players since 3 years ago and has won. They can beat you in different ways. With that being said, Varina is a very good team that's playing its best ball. #3 and #6 are the majority of the offense. Defensively, Varina gets after you, causes turnovers and use short fields and sudden change to score. Phoebus has a knack of wearing down its opponents and don't beat themselves. I think Varina is a year away. I'm going Phoebus 23 - Varina 16.
All due respect Bo, Huguenot is not on Phoebus level. Dinwiddie is not on Phoebus level. They score and overwhelm opponents that can't recover. Neither team has a good defense. Varina does and so do Phoebus. Varina has speed and so does Phoebus. Defense is Phoebus' staple. I'm so interested to see this game. I don't see no other team matching up with Phoebus other than Varina. But I'm gonna say it again. The experience is gonna play out in this game. No excuses. 757 vs 804! At night, cold weather, on turf,...it gets dark at 5:20pm. Varina will have to key on multiple guys. QB Wyche is the key for Varina. Going both ways against Phoebus is tough but the kid is a player. He makes everything happen for Varina. I like his game. Phoebus Qb Banks is the truth. Dual threat and Unbeaten. He can beat you running or passing but he doesnt have to play both ways. Phoebus got other dogs. By far this is the best game on Saturday hands down.
I think they can but coaching and line play will ultimate factor IMO. I don’t see them lining up and moving the ball on Varina’s defense through pure talent and athleticism. I trust Phoebus coaching staff will scheme up some plays to maintain drives down the field but I still don’t see more than 3tds scored on that Varina defense. Unless there are turnovers and special teams play that can give either team a shorter field to deal with.
Hell, Springs put up 19. Dinwiddie put up 27. What makes you think Phoebus can't score more...lol with a bunch of experienced seniors who already has 3 chips? I'm just asking....or is it wishful thinking?
I think they can hold them to 14. This will be a low scoring game unless there are turnovers
Well you are right. We will but one thing is certain. Phoebus is far better than Springs and Dinwiddie.
Can't use transitive scores. Varina and HS are rivals as well. We do know that Phoebus and Varina beat HS. Win is a win, not every game is the same. I've seen team A beats team B then team B smack team A in the playoffs

I wouldn't say "always." LCA has only won 1 championship since joining VHSL. In fact, they have only won the district three times.

I got the feeling he was holding the ball too long on purpose. Sherando were not much of a threat to Phoebus and presented little to no competition. At one point it look like Phoebus was doing a walk through practice.
If this is the case then I’m im all in on Phoebus. Good luck to both teams.

Being that Dinwiddie has had the same quarterback since their last title where are biggest position losses that have kept them from getting back to championship?
Shutout? Shutdown? But not the 5-5 Hanover Hawks. And not Dinwiddie. Unless 14, 27 and 0 are all the same numbers.
Skill position and injuries. The outside opinion of Dinwiddie makes people think they are just loaded every season when really the coaches just get the best out of the players. A couple of injuries here and there usually hurts them more than most other teams.
The score for Dinwiddie isn’t indicative of the game. Their 4 star playmaker scored on 3 bang bang plays and then they scored a late TD when the game was out of hand. Yeah they scored 27 points but besides when Dinwiddie was actually down 28-21, there was never a doubt that Varina was the more complete team. Varina has dominated in the playoffs against three really good teams (Huguenot, Dinwiddie and Tusky). As great as Phoebus is, they have not seen much competition all year (Highland Springs and Warwick were light years better than any other team they’ve played). I think that’ll make some difference in Saturday’s outcome.
