I was rummaging around earlier, looking for some threads about our guys at EMCC and stumbled on the 2012 new unis thread... After reading through the discussion, I thought I should clear something up that was brought up, so here we go...
I'm not completely sure where aTotal360 got his information, but it's absolutely FALSE. For the record, I'm also not calling you a liar, just telling you whatever you were told is not true.
The Mississippi State football videos that I edited in 2010 (and the one in 2011) were EXCLUSIVELY my work and no one else's. I used video that myself and Tim Kelchner shot while covering MSU football for WCBI, I also occasionally sprinkled in some video lifted from ESPN (missed FG from 2010 Florida game and couple of highlights from 2011 Gator Bowl). EVERY SINGLE EDIT was made by me, every idea came from me, and not one part was lifted from someone else.
Now... let me also clear up a couple more things that not many people know, but probably should since it was brought up.
I will never be able to find out why the SEC requested some, but not all, of my videos be taken down. There was no consistent pattern or rule to go by to determine what was "flagged" and what was not. I now understand that their media regulations are WAY harsher than every other conference's, and using any footage from an SEC event is illegal. I also understand that thousands of videos using their footage go untouched. Do I think I was targeted? I absolutely do, but I'm not saying I wasn't in the wrong either... since I began working at EMCC, I removed ALL Mississippi State videos from my account to prevent any other copyright strikes or legal action. Even removing the ones that were allowed to stay after the SEC took their bite in January 2011 and July 2011.
When I removed all videos, that also included the 2011 True Maroon video, which debuted at the spring game that year. That was a video I was asked to do by the SA and Rhett Hobart and I was given archival footage by the school. That video was never flagged by anyone, I'm assuming because the school asked me to do it. If I remember correctly, that had a second or two of ESPN footage in it.
I'm telling you all of this to make a point that I have NEVER tried to pass someone else's work off as my own. I have, from time to time, used footage from other media outlets (ESPN), but that is not out of the ordinary. I won't be able to do videos for Mississippi State until they hire me. And for now, I'm with East Mississippi. Using 100% footage that I shoot and edit myself.
Sorry for the long story, but I felt like these things should be cleared up... because to be completely honest with you, I wish Mississippi State had called when I applied for a job there a year and a half ago.
