I’d be worried about him if he didn’t. Definitely not getting drafted this year so it’s a good move. Now I think he’ll be back. Was worried he might just go to Europe.

Any concerns Cliff would transfer to a more NBA-friendly school like his namesake?

IMHO, it’s more like NIL or NBA. Whoever can figure out how he can get NIL money will have a great shot with Cliff.

I love Cliff's game and what he brings to the table, but look at Kofi Cockburn, an All American @ Illinois that averaged 17/10 in his last year and went undrafted and is now playing professionally in Japan.

Kofi's skills were more advanced than Cliff's so I hope Cliff gets some candid advice from pro teams before making a final decision.

Armando Bacot (same height) from UNC decided to return for another year. I expect Cliff to do the same

Kofi was a very good player but nowhere near the athleticism and upside that Cliff has potential for. If he developed a low post game and a better mid range shot he would go first round IMO

Isn’t Cliff not able to receive NIL money since he’s here on a student visa? Or maybe I’m making that all up.

There is zero market for a player like Kofi in today’s NBA.

Cliff on the other hand could fit into a Clint Capela/Jarrett Allen/Robert Williams type role

Totally agree Kevon Looney etc
Cliff doesn’t need to shoot threes and/or be a big time low post player to play in the NBA

Kofi Cockburn is basically a Greek tragedy.
He declared for the draft 3 times (must be a record). Same "evaluation" every time- likely undrafted.
Finally he stayed in the 3rd time and went.....undrafted.

Poor kid. Basically begging the NBA for a shot every year. Always found it curious he stayed at Illinois. Pretty obvious he had zero interest in being there but was just stuck.

Not surprised by this at all and I think he made a great decision to see where he stands and go from there.

Sounds like Bacot is making some serious NIL money at UNC. Can't replicate that professionally when he is out of eligibility.

Will be interesting to see what Edey does. Could very well comeback for another year as well. He is a second round pick in this years draft.

Cliff is not getting drafted and unfortunately another year in college probably does little to improve his prospects.

Does Cliff’s situation help or hurt us with regards to landing front court players in transfer portal?

Hurt.
Everyone knows he’s unlikely to be drafted. Inference would be he’s highly likely to return. So significant minutes are not likely available.

I doubt HC Pike even explores a replacement. You imagine (hope?) that HC Pike already knows if Clif will be returning or not.

For anyone that read Cliff’s announcement. Wow. What an amazing kid! So happy he came here!
Was thinking the exact same thing. What a great ambassador for the program and Rutgers University - just a quality individual. I'm pretty sure he'll hear that he should spend one more year in college developing his game and be back at RU. He could always go to Europe or elsewhere, but he also could've done that last year. Here's his statement for those who don't like clicking...

F-1 visa immigration rules prevents them from “working off campus” in the USA. Internationally apparently anything goes. It’s not the NCAA. US government

Very classy statement. Would be awesome to see him succeed in the pros but obviously wouldn't mind having him back at the RAC

It has nothing to do with NIL
If you’re on a student visa you can’t get paid to work
Applies to 100x more non athlete students in US on student visas

We have an international trip this offseason, I’m sure they’ll find a way to get Cliff some NIL on that should he stay.
This. What is encouraging is this is not the same ole Rutgers this program under Pikiell plays “the game”. Great development for us fans.

If he was going to transfer he would’ve entered in conjunction with this announcement. It’s either NBA/ProbLeagues or RU
