Pretty much a worthless organization if you judge by getting results.

The whole organization is having a party time for these so called diplomats are entitled buffoons acting like they are doing constructive work snd making the world better.

Really hate this wave of wanting to become more and more isolationist and abandon all the diplomatic connections between us and the rest of the world. If someone thinks we’ve lost strength or need to follow less or something, fine. I could dig it. But feels like the pendulum is swinging too far, and all the smaller countries that previously relied upon us, they aren’t coming back and just giving us everything, they are going to others. I just think we are losing some of the influence we previously had. We soon will only be able to get things done with the stick and as a bully.

I'd like to point out that after meeting with world leaders at the UN yesterday, he put out this statement about Ukraine, which contradicts your statement that it's worthless.

I mean, not telling all our allies they are going to hell. Feels like a start. I won't pretend to be an expert. But my opinion is that the pendulum has swung too far.

OK Let me tell you what Trump did yesterday since YOU HAVE NO SOLUTION

TRUMP HAS A SOLUTION I AGREE WITH

HERES THE PLAN

Like Trump went in HARD on NATO and made them pee in their pants. He is doing the same to the UN.

For example the Pansy Butt Europeans were not paying their NATO financial share. Were slacking on helping Ukraine having the US pay the lions share of military aid and doing business with Russia while complaining about Russia invading the Ukraine.

Trump pointing that out has dramatically changed the new strategy.

Same as with raising children and even grandchildren if you don’t call them out for bad behavior they think it is acceptable and continue it.

Have a lot of friends who are college football coaches and they always told me the better the player potential the harder they pushed them.

Now with those examples Trump gave s speech which I ask did you listen to it. If not Google it and take the time .

Trump called out the UN for their less than friendly attitudes toward the US policies and the abuse of the US being the benefactor in money and support.

These small think they are so special countries need to get on board with democracy and freedom.

SO THE PLAN IS THE TRUMP PLAN THAT FOLLOWS WHAT HE OUTLINED IN THE SPEECH

LOVE IT UNLESS YOU HAVE A BETTER PLAN I CAN SUPPORT

Libs have no solution other than orange man bad. they are clueless and leaderless.

So many people live in their own bubble.

When they are not affected not suffer consequences of their actions or other peoples actions on them they are experts.

For example I personally have experienced crime against my family and myself.

The sad part of this site and many others are lack of breath of brain power and thought

They like Trump said about the UN are wasting the good they have in them

OK thats a start on which we can agree to use as the kind of civility and approach to be taken

however that is the opening sentence

AND NOT something of any consequence to addressing the dysfunction of the UN

just so I'm sure, these are your solutions to solving UN issues? If no, ignore the rest of this post. If yes, read on.........

To solve what is perceived as UN problems we have to start with "what is the purpose of the UN?". If it's your 5 elements then maybe we can call it a success. But if it's more like stop or preclude wars, end famine/hunger, educate the masses, health in the world and other similar issues, then I would submit that Trump was at least partially right in his speech yesterday. Un Is not a successful organization.

How do you solve the problem? In an organization like the UN it's not easy. Not only do you not have the decision makers in the room, you also do not have people who see the goals of the organization in the same way, but they also don't see the world in the same way.

Bit like every organization if you are going to succeed you have to start with an objective and then lead the members to a conclusion. Most on here understand the principals of management, so no need to repeat here.

Not to "brag" or overstate the role, but in my working career I represented the US on a couple of panels of NATO. .had the opportunity to chair one. Just trying to get everyone to agree on the objective, attempting to get everyone heading in the same direction was like herding cats, and of course reps from every country had to comment on every step forward whether pertinent or not. To say it was painful is an understatement. And that was with only 20 countries, I can't imagine what it's like with 190 and with many of them economically challenged with significantly different needs. And, don't forget there's a committee on the UN where one of the members has a 1 vote veto power.

At least I got regular trips to Brussels, so there was that

Trump's points are obscene and with someone like him holding the most power, there may be no way to resolve the problems he sees because it would require him taking the lead and since he cares nothing about the worldview of anyone but his own, we will need to hope he doesn't destroy it before a saner, more diplomatic leader takes the reins - one who doesn't see the rest of the world as woke with anti-American interests.

And yes, I do use AI sometimes because it's a valuable tool that saves time and provides a lot of valuable information - but I always provide the link when I do use it so you know I'm not using my own words. You should try it some time before you start spreading nonsense that you don't understand.

Man, people are allowed to have opinions without feeling like they know exactly what should be done. I can tell you that Clemson football sucks right now without the ability to be an offensive coordinator.

It is possible to not like how Trump is treating our allies, without saying we have all the answers. You are the exact same, just on the other side of the coin. You are choosing to trust, we are choosing to not like the direction we are headed in our foreign relations.

One of the most important things in your posting was the need to have lets for the sake of deciding if there is a successful organization.

What is the mission, what outcome is considered success, what is the objective and all as you said set up the desired results then you measure the beginning and then measure the end.

Then you can say failure or success.

Right now the UN is a huge aircraft carrier sailing the ocean with no rudder in my opinion.

Trump in the speech was calling out the UN like he called out NATO.

I was listening to some folks discuss the poor of the world who are being suppressed by the UN Green Strategy as the wealthy countries use lots of carbon based stuff to be wealthy while being Green depresses the poor countries.

Just an one example of misguided goals.

Yes you started out on the right track. Figure out the mission. Then allocate resources to meet the mission and then execute. Lets just call it a plan.

Of course this is much more difficult than scrambling eggs or boiling water, but what the UN is doing is a big fat zero.

We are reacting to what we felt was a disaster of a speech. The same as people would after many Biden speeches (deservedly). You’re adding a weird requirement for people to have an opinion. I guess you do you.

I will go with you and add you don’t need to be a firefighter to know a house is on fire.

I am rolling with the thought that if Trump said the house was fire some of the folks on here would argue that it was flooding with water.

Just a point I constantly see people attacking by name calling without a clue on cause and effect and dimply have TDS.

I do totally support their right to be that way. I just don’t want to be totally blinded by any single person.

Ahh yes. TigerPrice the bastion of global politics.

Your MAGA isolationists bs is terrible and reductive. And has no net impact AT ALL. Grow up dude.

The United Nations (UN) started near the end of World War II in 1945. During the war, leaders like U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill wanted to create a group of countries working together to keep peace and stop future wars. They chose the name "United Nations" for the countries fighting against the enemies in World War II.

In April 1945, representatives from 50 countries met in San Francisco to write the United Nations Charter, which is like the UN’s rulebook. They agreed to work together to solve big problems like wars and to help countries live peacefully. The UN officially began on October 24, 1945, which is now celebrated every year as United Nations Day. The main goal of the UN is to keep peace, help countries cooperate, and make the world a safer and better place for everyone.

The UN replaced an earlier group called the League of Nations, which didn’t work well enough to stop wars. The UN today has almost every country in the world as a member and helps with peace, human rights, and development worldwide.

The United Nations (UN) has evolved significantly since its founding in 1945 to address new global challenges while maintaining its core mission of peacekeeping and international cooperation. Today, it has 193 member countries and works across many areas including peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, climate action, and humanitarian aid.

In 2025, marking its 80th anniversary, the UN faces major challenges like financial crises and calls for reform. The current Secretary-General António Guterres launched the UN80 initiative to modernize the organization, improve efficiency, and ensure it remains relevant in today's fast-changing world. This reform focuses on better coordinating programs, embracing digital innovation, and aligning the UN to more effectively tackle issues like climate change, displacement, and global health.

Despite difficulties such as political tensions among big powers and reduced funding, the UN remains essential for international dialogue and crisis response. It continues to support peacekeeping missions, provide humanitarian aid, and promote the Sustainable Development Goals aiming for global progress by 2030. The UN is also a unique global forum where member states come together to discuss and solve worldwide problems collaboratively, adapting to new threats while striving for peace and justice.
