@ 5:00 minutes ............interesting discussion about loyalty to Penn state
@ 7:00 minutes ......... interesting take on the way Campbell will handle the NIL recruiting.

I like Josh Pate. I think he’s typically fair across the board of his praises and his critiques. Having him acknowledge this as a great hire is pleasing to hear!

Assuming you are referring to Kraft (I haven't watched yet), I generally don't have a huge issue with some profanity if it is used sparingly and to really emphasize something. However, my completely unqualified psychological opinion is that people who constantly have to say "f*ck" have security issues. It strikes me as an effort to make yourself sound like a tough guy. Not to mention, it loses its effect if you use it every sentence. One other guy who does this - Bill O'Brien.
who said ,WHAT THE F***K WAS THAT? (the mayor of hiroshima)

He’s pushed for this hire since the day Franklin was fired.

Some people speak that way in front of folks a lot younger than they are because they think they'll connect better with kids that way. I disagree with that mentality completely, but I see it happen at the high school level where I teach.

I didn't say anything about intelligence.
And since you brought it up, most of the high achievers and intellectuals who accomplish anything the I've met don't tend to swear a lot, so my tiny sample size cancels your tiny sample size.
I will say, when someone like that does drop a well timed F bomb, it sure does get your attention.

Not a small sample, but you do you.

They should have hired the best available BEFORE signing day.

It will take 5 years to recover from the recruiting loss.

I admired Joe for his contributions to the university. He certainly deserves that recognition. I was also a strong supporter of coach Franklin and I'm very excited for the future of the program under the helm of Matt Campbell. Whether he is or isn't a Paterno advocate makes no difference to me even though he seems to be. Does that make me a 409er? Just trying to get s handle as to what that means.

A "409er" = anyone who got a "tingle-y" feeling in their pants 16 days ago when they saw Terry Smith wearing a pin.

Those folks know who they are.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I have no issues with that. I'm a loyal Penn State alum and fan of our past, present and future. We can be proud of where we have come and where we are going.

Why? If Campbell can flip some guys, bring some of his players/receuits from Iowa State, and sign some portal guys, why should that take five years to recover from?
We are going to lose portal players too. Trading psu players and recruits for iowa state players and recruits is a step backwards.

The first year with a new coach usually is a recruiting bump. We are going to miss that.

The disaster you were all talking about last week didn't suddenly go away. We lost 25 commits. Everyone else can still add players too. We are not making up.the loss anytime soon.

I just watched the beginning of the presser.

Note...and this is a big note...literally one of the first things Krafty references is restoring the toughness in Penn State football. This is HUGE and something BGJ never did nor really cared about. We need to be tough and physical. That is our tradition and we need to reclaim that culture.

Then in Campbell's opening remarks he references this toughness and talks about his family ties to Penn State and talks about Coach Paterno's tough disciplined teams. He also talks about Kyle Brady and how he watched him as a young 16 year old football player playing tight end! Love this reference to our storied tradition.

Welcome Coach Campbell! Super excited for the future of Penn State football!

God forbid we rightfully honor the man that makes Penn State a “blue blood” and won more games than anyone else in history. Wearing a 409 pin honors Penn State.

Trivia question, since you mention Paterno "making Penn State a blue blood":

Of the 3 Head Coaches that preceded Paterno and also coached more than 1 season (so we're not counting Joe Bedenk), how many of THEM are members of the College Football Hall of Fame?

You spent your whole life honoring him.

Should you be looking for the statue?

But five years? Come on.
I took a second look at the entire class before they all de committed and I identified maybe 2 kids that could make a difference on a top 25 team next year. Losing the recruiting class hurts but is not a factor for the end product on the field next season. The concerns as far as that goes relate mainly to the players who run out of eligibility and the possible/probable portal losses....but honestly, I don't know who wants to leave this team after watching that press conference. I can't imagine any man on this team other than probably Rojas, who wants out.

And hopefully he can get some good portal guys that have two or three years of eligibility left.

Yes. I believe 5 years. The rosters are 5 year window We lost a whole year of recruits. That is tough to replace.

Doubling up next years class does not really work because the depth needs to be spread over positions and age groups.

The portal is the variable but everyone else has the portal too. I also see Franklin potentially raiding our roster.

Just because everyone else has the portal doesn’t mean anything because certain teams have way more success with the portal. If he can replace the lost recruits with portal sophomores and juniors, he can make up for that lost class.

Im just glad to not hear about 1st down battles, penalty battles, explosive play battles. I swear, we would lose our usual big game by a point and he’s start in on all the battle crap. I feel like that weirdness played some factor in them never getting over the hump.

Lost the whole year of recruits? Don't think the 2026 list of commits is nearly complete. Final number unknown.

And we have more roster space to fill out which helps

we also have more $ than others as we don’t have recruits to pay. And we have easier path on depth chart if we lose current players.

This makes recruiting portal easier for PSU

as for lost class down the road. I think it’s minimal. With portal we can add players in over class. It can be done over multiple years. And with increased roster size individual classes are less important. As you can sign 25 kids per year and be at 100.

2 next year, 5 the second year and 5 more the third year.

Listened to the whole Press Conference on YouTube. Really liked how classy he was when talking about extending what prior coaches had built.... he then specifically mentioned James Franklin and complimented him on how successful he was and that he was taking over a group of young men who had been coached the right way in terms of team culture... Was extremely complimentary and classy in regards to James Franklin and the job he had done at PSU since taking over in 2014 - was really glowing in how he talked about Franklin, how he ran the program, his players, etc.... Nobody has really mentioned it, but to me, it really spoke what a genuine and high-character guy, and the type of person, CMC is.
