EJ Barthel. Need to understand NJ recruiting and Barthel knows it. Keep Harbaughs paws off of him.
I think our troubles with recruiting had more to do with Flood than Barthel, with that said I'm going to support whoever Ash brings in, I'm all in.Hm. Not sure how I feel about this. It's not like we have been killing in recruiting these past couple years. OTOH, the recruits we do have seem to really like Barthel.
Drama? I'll assume you were joking.I hope we keep ej...but first hire?
How about an OC?
Already with the drama...

OC and DC will come, but keeping in touch with potential recruits, committed and uncommitted is key to begin, particularly, if you aren't familiar with the territory and you've got someone who is doing well in that category. When the OC and DC get here the RC will start refining who we target.

Just out of curiosity, why does he have to understand NJ recruiting? Not trying to pick a fight here, just wondering what the difference is in recruiting NJ as compared to Ohio, Georgia, Florida...all places Ash has battled against big-time schools for players? What makes NJ so different compared to the other mega-talented states I mentioned?

Thanks - I do agree OC and DC hires are extremely critical as that will define style of play, which in turn will define recruits to fit system. Maybe just a chicken and egg problem at this time. Seems like he can keep Barthel for a year and see how he does (just a matter of retaining him), and at the same time zone in on OC and DC. As for OC, I did not think McDaniel was all that bad and wonder if Ash may have a connection with him via virtue of being at Ohio State. Of course he could just go for someone he's worked with before. For DC I expect someone new for sure.Just out of curiosity, why does he have to understand NJ recruiting? NJ is a very awkward state and has a very unique HS football landscape. It is almost like a bunch of different states compacted into the most densely populated state in the country. You are going to need someone on staff who has a knack for getting elite NJ kids on campus alot from different parts of the state which isnt an easy task for someone who isn't familiar with the place. This is why he would need an E.J Barthel type person on deck to help him out.
