Here's a post I made on TD in response to an OM fan who posted some good comments about recruiting, then finished with, "<font><font class="PostDisplay">If you don't want OM fans talking **** about recruiting, pressure your staff to do a better job.</font></font><font><font class="PostDisplay"></font></font>"

coach may already be doing a better job--you can't just go by rankings,
as "it's a subjective and highly inaccurate business".
You
have to go by results, which come from raw talent but also player
development, teaching, and on-the-field coaching. Some 3-star recruits
develop into 4-star players by doing nothing more than gaining
muscle/weight and keeping (or improving) their HS speed. Others improve
by coaching techniques or being used on the field in the most optimum
way.
A very common quote among our current recruits is "I'm
coming to Starkville to work hard". Not "I had a great time while
visiting". Maybe, just maybe, Mullen is going after the highest rated
players he can of whom he is positive will work their hardest. And
telling recruits that they will work their butts off doesn't put off
hard working recruits.
Similarly, I do know that Saban works
the tails off recruits in his camps, and he won't pursue those that
can't hack a tough camp. Saban gets highly rated AND hard working
players, and he wins National Championships.
Right now, the
highest-rated hard working players Mullen can get are mostly 3-stars.
I'll take a hard-working 3-star over a more talented but less hard
working 4- or 5-star any day. If Mullen continues to win, then he'll be
able to attract some hard working AND higher rated players. And we will
continue to rise.
