Bill Lech of Joliet West, team was 0-5 with a couple of close losses, kept it together and the Tigers won their first conference title in 50 years.
It's got to be Jordan Lynch. 1 year after the school made a mess of the Coach Frank situation, and he goes undefeated!!!!!
Ryan Wilkens of Glenbard North took and 0 - 9 team from last year to a 6 - 3 record this year in the tough DuKane conference. Only losses were early in the season against teams that all made the playoffs (Neuqua Valley, Warren and Batavia). Advanced to a second round playoff game against Mount Carmel that was anybody's game until the 4th quarter.
That is an amazing turnaround. I'm a St. Charles East fan that didn't give GBN much of a chance of doing anything meaningful this year and I ate some big crow. Hats off to Wilkens and the Panther players.

Hillcrest highschool Coach Morgan Weaver this is a team that was a doormat for years until weaver an co turned this program around only Losing 2 games in the last 2 years he’s is doing a tremendous job and he also beat out St Laurence coaching who everyone is saying he’s a Candidate for coach of the year
Yeah... this is my issue with Coach of the Year. It is atleast to me such a varrying discussion. If you go winless then a playoff run, shouldn't it be the Glenbard North guy? But, they lost in the second round. So do you make it just a winning coach? Or someone who did a great coaching job?
It has to be St. Rita Coach Todd Kuska. Navigating the State’s second toughest schedule with a young team, winning 7 straight through a QB change and losing D1 JR WR Henry Wilson for the season due to injury.
Has to be Jordan Lynch. 1 year after taking over the program from one of the most legendary coaches in IL history, who instead of leaving quietly did everything in his power to air the school’s and program’s dirty laundry....he goes undefeated while having a ruthless schedule and recruited 75+ freshman into the program.
The guy is an animal and he’s only 29 years old!

McMillen has done a better job in year 2 than Lynch IMO. He went in with almost nothing to work with.
I don't think he all of the sudden forgot how to coach then miraculously remembered this year. It happens from time to time. He has a proven record of success so I think its quite a story to go 0-9 last year, lose your first two this year and then win a playoff game.
I’m not saying he hasn’t done a good job this year but they had the same kids last year. No excuse for going 0-9.
Lynch has done a good job for sure but with the amount of talent they have, meh. They’ve been more talented than everyone they’ve played and in most cases significantly more talented.
Actually they started last year with very few seniors. Started a large number of sophomores and juniors who hadn't played varsity football. So he started last year with a whole new crew and this year that crew came back. Three of his first four games were Neuqua, Warren and Batavia. I would say that's an impressive turnaround.
I didn't nominate him last year.
I think they’ve been evenly matched on several occasions this year playing in the Blue, but what I’ve been impressed with most is his play selection, situational decision making. He’s managed his bullpen well, resting players when feasible to do so. He’s primed them for a Title run. He’s a chess master; this season (Lynch) has out coached some of the best. Well deserving of the acknowledgment...

It's a toss up between Kuska and Lynch. After the regular season record of 3-6 last year people were saying Rita football was dead. This year after the loss at Montini he sat the kids down a put it to them this is what they needed to do to win. 7 straight wins since then, with a QB change after week 7. Jordan has done a very nice job this year. Undefeated in this league is no small task. Some of our alumni would like the margin of victory to be bigger, I like the smooth steady play of getting the job done.
My vote is for McNulty as well, but my caveat is that we don't hear from the Marketing Director from Six Flags.
He is the only Coordinator ever to get the Illinois Coach of the Year and Lawless Award
I think the way to look at this isn’t biggest change in record from prior year (could be influx of talent) or who has the best record, etc. It should be who you think got the most out of their team. Who did the most with the least. So a 4-5 coach could be the guy.

Why would that matter. MtC has plenty talent. Lots of coaches would win with that roster
I dont know. But nobody has mentioned Racki as coach of the year in 5 years so if you have talent you don't get considered.
Racki's resume is not as strong, because Naz did not play the regular season schedule that MC played.
But Naz clocked a team in the 1st half against a team Mtc went down the the wire with?
JMO, but it's the breadth of accomplishment Lynch has over Racki. You mention one game. Naz doesn't have the overall quality of wins (MS, Montini, Loyola, Rice). Both have beaten Marist, so that's a wash.

I agree with his point. Why arent we talking about LWE coach z as COY. When you have the talent its expected of you. MC was semi finalist before Lynch got there and he just picked up where they left off.
With all due respect to Lynch (and he deserves it) right now he’s just the guy who didn’t crash the Ferrari. I suspect he will build his own solid legacy in the years ahead.
