"We want to build from the in to out," Ray said. "Obviously
Mississippi is the most important thing in our recruiting and then after
Mississippi it's the border states... <span style="font-weight: bold;">We want to make sure we put a
wall around Mississippi</span>."</p>

Ray, who has strong ties to the Midwest, says that area of the country won't be a focal point.</p>

"You're kind of foolish if you want to concentrate on someplace outside of your state at this time," he said.</p>

</p>

He better get started b/c LSU, Alabama, and Arky have gotten some good players in the past few years...</p>

Put Up that Wall Coach Ray

This isn't football. AAU ball makes it where schools can reach out of state more in basketball than any other sport.

Kansas has 1 player on their roster for Kansas.
Kentucky didn't start 1 player from Kentucky in the NC game.
Florida's best players were from out of state.
Vanderbilt doesn't have 1 player from Tennessee on it's roster.

The rumor is Ray wants to avoid the AAU scene in many ways. If this is one of them, he won't last very long focusing in on players from MS.

Sorry, hope the guy wins, but that's how I feel when I read that.

"I’ve been on the phones just grinding, grinding, grinding, getting in contact with AAU coaches and high school coaches and kids that we’ve got signed.”"

that has some kind of personal agenda against Scott Stricklin. There's way too many Stricklin is Templeton version 2.0 when everything the man has ever done looks exactly like Byrne version 2.0 to me. Ray is Stricklin's first major hire, so now the ridiculous attacks are starting on him too (maybe also from a few diehard Stans supporters who want him to fail).

Since we already have the mighty Mississippi on one side and the Tenn-Tom on the other. Gotta look at the budget here folks.

Surprised at the disapproval in this thread.

If there's one thing Kansas and UK have proven, you don't need out-of-state talent.
