Incidentally, I was at practice the other day and would you believe Dr Route wouldn't let his receivers catch with both hands? Nope, whenever they did he had them run laps. Only good catches were one handed catches. Just like he coaches them. Always.

I think this really hurts. I personally have zero tolerance for drinking and driving so I do hope he's gone. However, I expect he'll stay. I don't think we'll get the WR class we were hoping for however.

What we do know is that the courts are going to make this very easy for Nebraska. If he's guilty, he's fired. It's just the way it's going to be, especially since there will probably be jail. Of course if he happens to weasel his way out of it and get lesser charges with probation then who knows what happens, but if it's his 3rd that will be hard for his defense attorney.

This sucks for many reasons, but I found myself thinking why can't we get away from these types of coaches? Had plenty with the previous mafia staff, now this....

Riley knew Williams had multiple DUIs on his record when he hired him. The University background check would have revealed that. While I don't blame Riley for giving the guy a chance, I don't feel too sorry for him in this situation.

Like I said before, there was a reason a talented coach like Williams was working at places like Tulane and Fresno, and I'm guessing his problems with alcohol were a big reason.

I tend to agree. I think Riley knew this guy was good, but yeah, there is a reason why he was at Tulane and stuff. Probably wanted to give the guy a break. Well...that may not be working out.

If we get rid of him, we don't necessarily lose Jr or McQuitty. Jr signed on mostly because his dad likes Riley, and McQuitty is from KC so is more of a local boy. Not sure he cares. But yeah, I doubt we pick up any other major hauls on WR if Williams goes. And even if he stays, that's going to be a nuclear issue for parents/recruits, right?

Bad situation, unless he goes and we immediately are able to hire some kind of amazing replacement (unlikely), the charges are somehow dropped or dramatically reduced and he gets treatment, or...I dunno. This sucks.

I think this probably nails it. My strong suspicion is that we all need to start getting used to the idea that he is gone. Anything else is wishful thinking. And then Riley needs to move fast to find a great replacement in order to salvage recruiting.

Everyone wants the best for him .. But make no mistake there are 4+ pages in this thread because of the ramifications of this on the football program and recruiting.

I hope we can salvage this WR class and aren't left poaching the Dakota schools for WR recruits and proclaiming them diamonds in the rough

Coach Riley should call up his old friend Keyshawn Johnson and offer him the WR coaching job. Key would be able to keep his son in the fold AND bag a few more studs!

Wow 18th amendment smack???? I think this problem is more deeply rooted. We should have never revolted and left the British empire. We would now be playing more civilized sports like soccer and Cricket rather than the brutish sport of football that fosters this type of behavior

My only concern is for the well being of The Cornhusker Football Program (pronounced progrum), being British subjects would not help in that aspect. If that means no booze... so be it! First, Nebraska does accept out of state convictions for purposes of sentencing enhancement as long as the defendant was represented at the prior trial or plea. It happens all of the time. Second, the look back period in Nebraska is 15 years. You may not agree a conviction 10 or 12 years ago should be relevant today, but ultimately our legislature has determined otherwise.

Finally, if Coach Williams is looking at a true third offense .15+, he's facing at a mandatory sixty days in county jail even if he's deemed a suitable candidate for probation. Even if he pleaded to a third offense .08+ he'd still face 30 days in jail if put on probation. Some form of - at least - outpatient treatment would likely be ordered as a condition of probation. His counsel has to work to get it reduced to at least a second offense low BAC just to minimize jail time (10 days or 240 hours community service with probation).

You people who are calling for his head or a year suspension have to be the most intelligent people I've met. Seriously, guy has a problem. You help him. Let's get coach Williams help. Firing or suspending him won't help him. The world loves a comeback.

And I'm highly disappointed in the freaking Lincoln Bars. One of my buddies is a professor at Arkansas and tells me, Bret Bielama gets silly drunk at the bars almost every night of the week on Dixon street in Fayetteville, the bar tenders all know not to ever let him drive. Uber is always lined up for him or some sober driver is always ready. My brother in law is a professor @ Alabama, and half that staff including Lane Kiffen, is always hammered out at bars. There bars make sure he does not drive. Freaking Barry's should do the same. Only reason that bar has made it long enough is because of our football program. Not saying Coach isn't to blame but come on man. Take care of the thing that's kept you in business all these years
