Unlike the basketball program, he will run a disciplined program and make a SR run or better from time to time. But if we were to miss a regional this year- then make one next year- he won't be going anywhere

I don't think we will fire him if we go to regionals almost every year. I just don't think we should settle for that if we aren't going to the CWS every 3-5 years.

And I'm not trying to diminish the fact that we got one. I'm just pointing out that barely getting into the tournament at all and then beating a depleted #2 seed, a #4 seed and the #1 seed's 5th starter isn't necessarily a sign that the program has turned the corner and everything going to be hunky dory from here on out. Cohen did a good job that weekend and he definitely helped himself out, but he's still got a lot to prove before I'm back on the Cohen bandwagon.

1997 - CWS
1998 - CWS
2000 - Super
2001 - Super
2007 - CWS
2011 - Super

That's only 6 in 20 years and only 2 in the last 10 years. If Cohen can get us to a super reasonably regularly, I'll be OK with that.

you should know that very few teams have a back log of senior starters playing baseball. If they do, then they weren't good enough as juniors or 3rd year sophomores to get drafted high enough to go pro. ALL....not just some....but ALL of the best SEC programs have good freshmen, good sophomores and very good juniors in their stating lineups, including stud freshmen pitchers on several staffs that are as good as our sophs and juniors.

Genius...You might wanna look at Polk's 3rd from last and 2nd from last recruiting classes. You might find the reason State made the CWS in 2007 and a Super Regional in 2011.

There are guys that can hit the baseball better in college than they did in high school. Instruction at the higher level can enhance the skills. In our case guys that come in with decent stats go downhill fast because the game is a lot faster and no one on our staff works to change bad habits or stances that those guys got a way with in high school. We have NOBODY in this line up that wants to be "The GUY"......or a hero when the game is on the line. Their approach is more of fear than of confidence. Yesterday was a prime example. Can't win very many games in college scoring 3 to 4 runs per game, buddy.

you're not going to consistently do well in June. Here's the SEC teams that made supers in the last 5 years:

2011 - MSU - 16-16, USC - 22-8, UF - 22-8, Vandy - 22-8
2010 - Ark - 18-12, Bama- 15-15, USC - 21-9, Vandy - 16-12, UF - 22-8
2009 - UF - 19-11, LSU - 20-10, UM - 20-10, Ark - 14-15
2008 - UGA - 20-9, LSU - 18-11
2007 - USC - 17-13, UM - 16-14, MSU - 15-13

Out of 18 teams, only 2 had losing SEC records and only 1 lost 16 games, 11 of them won at least 18 games. Like I've said many times, winning the regional last year was great, but until we start finishing above .500 in the SEC super regionals are going to continue to be a rare occurance for MSU.
