As I expected, the VHSCA voted to move back to Hampton. As Mike Smith said, it's a numbers game.
It's hard to figure out why more coaches did not attend clinic/all star games in Lynchburg. Perfect venue, facilities, etc.
I went to some all star games this year. I saw 1 dogwood district coach there. I have always maintained that it should be mandatory for every coach to attend clinic. (now granted there are some exceptions, illness, family emergency, etc).
I would bet the farm that there are schools that had zero coaches at the clinic. Even worse, I bet there are coaches that did not even know there was a clinic.

That is true, but every coach should support their VHSCA. Most of those other clinics are "for profit" clinics. I know, I have been there.

It isn't as good as it once was, but that's because too many coaches do not support it. If one cannot support their coaches' association, they should not be coaching.

In our district the school doesn't pay for clinics. We have to pay our own way. A two or three night stay at a hotel plus meals, plus the clinic fee takes a pretty good chunk out of our $2000 stipend.

I spent 5 nights in Hampton for 9 straight years. It was worth it every year.

but school divisions should pay at least some of bill. Some schools do pay total cost for all coaches. But the cost isn't what keeps most coaches away.

That's kinda lame in my book, high school coaches are in full gear getting ready for the season and why would they spend their own money to go? Coaches/schools pay for coaches' passes from VHSCA, where does that money go to?

Mandatory for coaches to attend a clinic that most would have to pay for themselves?? Coaches are already underpaid and over worked and most are doing things 4-5 days a week with their team with the exception of the dead periods...I would laugh in my a.d.'s face if they were to tell me that, especially if it was coming out of my pocket. I'm a lil different than most though!

I do appreciate the VHSCA and I do appreciate your point that Coachs should attend clinics, especially with the annual rule changes that really need to be understood. I also appreciate, you have professed this for years. I can certainly confirm that.

Here's the bottom line. If the clinic brought something really useful and the school's paid for it, you'd get a better turnout. Like Phantom said, the 2000 a year stipend just doesn't cover it. Goodness of the heart only goes so far when you have a family to support and there's little to gain by attending. You want more Coachs to be there? Start by submitting a solution to resolve why they should.
