People who are negative about those who are negative are negative.Again, I completely understand wanting more. I just can’t stand the negative way so many are going about it on here…

He won’t be happy until Iowa is wrestling in a hs gym with seats to spare.Yes it’s mediocrity. The goal isn’t top 5. Iowa has been settling for that. every wrestler knows how hard it is to be a national champ. You come on here telling posters to accept what they have( top 5 ). We come on here and say it’s not good enough. I dont see the disconnect. If fans stop wanting more its called apathy.
Because we don’t understand how hard D1 wrestling is because he wrestled D1 at the worst big ten school thirty years ago.He won’t be happy until Iowa is wrestling in a hs gym with seats to spare.
Except this isn't a New York Strip. Finishing 2nd to a dynasty. Being in competition with them, year after year, having multiple finalists and champs throughout the past 15 years. Yes. THAT would be a New York Strip.
Being upset enough to want change is not "incessant whining" - it's a dereliction of the standard. There have been many plans/requests/ideas by persons on this board for change at the top. The administration not doing anything about it is the problem. Tom not doing a better job despite the resources and actual feedback is the problem.
If Tom and the administration want to come out and say that Iowa is NOT in the business of competing for chips every year - then sure, myself and the rest of the fans should calm down on all rhetoric in the opposite.
But until then - feedback of the fans simply pointing out the obvious and wanting change is not the problem.
How many #1 p4p have either gotten?
How many ncaa champions have each coached?
Not sure I dont know anything just what I heardLink???![]()
Actually multiplying two negatives makes a positive. Just saying.People who are negative about those who are negative are negative.
You shouldn't be able to stand yourself.
We didn’t come here for a math lesson. We came to rip on each other and talk wrestling, in that order.Actually multiplying two negatives makes a positive. Just saying.
Are you positive?People who are negative about those who are negative are negative.
I am not being negative. Just intenitonally annoying. There is a substantial difference.People who are negative about those who are negative are negative.

You're not a nobody, Corby because you clearly have some good information. But you are quick to call others out because they seemingly don't know anything which isn't cool at all. The reality is 99 percent of us don't know what we don't know which is why we talk about this stuff until our finger tips are raw from typing. When did I ever say TNT seek guidance from me . Never have I said that. I said today I'm a nobody who loves wrestling.
MSU and Corby want us to be average and we aren't good with it. And so the fight goes on...Let me translate that, in less than 4 paragraphs... Accept Mediocrity.
Iowa being 5th in wreslting is like Alabama being 25th in football. Yes, mediocrity. You're so used to MSU sucking in wrestling and you're hoping we join you. Not if we have anything to say about it.So 5th or better every year is mediocrity? You literally proved my point in way less than 4 paragraphs….as if that is an insult when it shouldn’t even take 30 seconds to read…
For a good part of the 90's up through about 2006 or so, Alabama football was pretty average at best. A few good seasons, a few below .500, but really a lot of meh for a once great program. Then it turned around to be one of the best, if not the best for multiple years. Iowa will rise again. Hopefully it does not take 15 years for it to get turned around. A change at the top can do wonders and some times it is just time to do so.Iowa being 5th in wreslting is like Alabama being 25th in football. Yes, mediocrity. You're so used to MSU sucking in wrestling and you're hoping we join you. Not if we have anything to say about it.
Nope, not even close. My argument is simply with the entitlement that oozes out of many of you on this board. Hell, I have even said I would like to see better performances. I have even been very critical of the Brands not getting their guys to March healthy, especially the upperclassmen.Iowa being 5th in wreslting is like Alabama being 25th in football. Yes, mediocrity. I typically do that after many people respond and keep going and saying this and that. Being a top 5 program for over 50 years is average ?MSU and Corby want us to be average and we aren't good with it. And so the fight goes on...
Also should be noted Cornells champs were there before Grey and brought in by prior coach, same with Lewis and Robie correct? For the sake of discussion:
Mike Grey:
He has signed 1 p4p #1 in Meyer Shapiro. Iowa has 0. (A couple of #2s in Ferrari and Kueter)
2 NCAA champs in 4 years as HC. Iowa has 1 over that time.
He has 2nd and a 3rd place team finishes to his credit. That matches Iowa over that time.
He currently has 3 wrestlers seeded top 3 in the tournament. Iowa has 1.
Tony Robie
No signed p4p #1s, though he has one committed for 2027 in Melvin Miller. Signed the #2 in this class (Bassett). Has a handful of top 10s.
2 NCAA champs in 7 years as HC (Lewis & Henson), the only 2 in VT history. (Iowa has also had two guys win titles over that time)
Best NCAA finish is 7th.
He has 1 wrestler seeded in the top 3 in the tournament. He has 3 wrestlers seeded 4th. Iowa has 1.

Every dynasty ends. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Look at UCLA Basketball. At one time they were arguably the biggest dynasty across all college athletics. Just like them, PSU will fall at some point.
The argument has NEVER been about wanting more. I have endorsed that. It is about spitting in the face of every other program by complaining about finishing top 5 for 17 years STRAIGHT when NO other team, including PSU has done it.
Again, the whining is akin to Rich People Problems. The caviar wasn't imported in time, so now I have to eat the local stuff. Yuck. It is SOOOO unfair...
Simply put, the Brands deserve WAY more credit on this board than they get and I have plenty of issues with that and these arguments are my way of expressing those....

Please fire back at the people who talk sh*t...I'm completely with you as I do the same...mostly at you and MSU. But sometimes people just make suggestions based on what they heard, think they heard, thought they saw/read, etc. Those types don't need to feel your wrath.I typically do that after many people respond and keep going and saying this and that. I have never been one to sit back and take sh*t at some point I'm gonna fire back.
Robie was on staff prior to Lewis arriving and was promoted to HC for 2017-18 season, which was Lewis’s first season with the program. Also should be noted Cornells champs were there before Grey and brought in by prior coach, same with Lewis and Robie correct?
I think they're both solid coaches but I think we need to aim higher.

First off, I am absolutely an Iowa wrestling fan. That is crystal clear. I probably cheer harder for each guy now than a vast majority of those that post on this board. That is the lamest argument you’ve made yet.
A non-Iowa fan on an Iowa board complaining about complainers because it somehow belittles smaller, successful programs…
No one here should care about meaningless stats like “top five in 17 years” lol or 30 plus years with an individual finalist (cool, but so what?) that’s total loser mentality when considering there’s only been what 5 schools that have won a team title in the last fifty years? Being top 5 is good? Not for us. At some point it wasn’t for OSU either when they forced their hall of fame coach to retire.
We understand D1 wrestling is hard. Entitlement is an under-performing program expecting fan support despite very observable problems that could be fixed, but are chosen not to due to (insert excuses here).
Iowa has its history and its fanbase. We are getting further away from its successful history of the gable years and early brands years and the fan base is souring. When should a change be made?
Wrestling and basketball aren't remotely comparable. There are hundreds of D1 basketball teams with REAL programs (fan, financial and admin support) and 15-20 or more of those every year with a realistic shot at winning a title.Nope, not even close. My argument is simply with the entitlement that oozes out of many of you on this board. Hell, I have even said I would like to see better performances. Zero can, but Iowa minus one or two years is easily the closest.Being a top 5 program for over 50 years is average ?
Dynasties come and go in all sports and wrestling is no different. But to stay at the top for 50 years isn't easy. How many other wrestling programs can say they've been top 5 for 50 years ?
The 2 teams that are now surpassing or have surpassed Iowa(PSU and OkState) are currently DWARFING Iowa in resources. Hell, it has been made known that the team didn't even get a single penny for revenue sharing this year. Meanwhile, Richison not only forked up huge money to get Taylor, but he FULLY FUNDED National Duals. Another billionaire is a giant reason Sanderson went to PSU and why he got EVERYTHING he could possibly want to build them into what they are now.You say this:
But then say this:
If you think you're doing anything other than 100% cementing with others are saying about you, you are sorely mistaken.
Top 5 isn't an achievement when over the vast majority of that time you've been top 2 in resources. Iowa wrestling is 100% a rich person, and with that comes rich person expectations. The number of 4th and 5th place finishes (7) in that time frame is just plain bad. To say nothing about being on the brink of 3 straight. It has become the norm, and that's a major problem.
I also take exception with your claim that Brands doesn't get credit on this board. The prevailing opinion is that Brands has had a hell of a run, but his time has run out based on recent results.
What are osu and psus billionaires providing to their programs that Iowa is lacking? What huge advantages are they getting via their billionaires? The 2 teams that are now surpassing or have surpassed Iowa(PSU and OkState) are currently DWARFING Iowa in resources. As far as the Brands go, MAYBE fans outside of this forum think the way you do. But, ON HERE, that simply is NOT the case. Hell many on here have even said PSU wouldn't be as good as they are if not for the Brands being so bad at their jobs. Can you not see how ridiculous that is and why I have dug in so hard here?
Mind you, I admittedly choose a very specific tact to get most of the reactions here that I receive. But, that is simply a tit for tat strategy. Most of the talk hasn't been how do we make Iowa better. It has been how do we get rid of Brands SIMPLY BECAUSE we will automatically be so much better without them To me, that is the most ridiculous approach humanly possible...

The 2 head coaches for starters. The biggest thing was the funding of the RTC's along with USING the RTC's to cover whatever "costs" have been and will be needed in the gray areas. What are osu and psus billionaires providing to their programs that Iowa is lacking? Ok, to be fair, I will poll this board. If everyone answers truthfully, it would be very interesting to see what the actual pulse of the board is.You're correct about OKST. But that only became true recently, not for (as I noted) the vast majority of the given 17-year timeframe. And even at that, Willie and others have reported that NIL $$$ isn't an issue at Iowa. It was poorly spent in the portal this past year, however.
I don't think your post accurately characterizes the prevailing opinion of the board. For instance, I don't see many, if any, thinking Iowa is going to "automatically" be better with change.
The 2 head coaches for starters. The biggest thing was the funding of the RTC's along with USING the RTC's to cover whatever "costs" have been and will be needed in the gray areas.
To be clear, I have NEVER said PSU cheats or that OkState is. However, what I HAVE said is they have been and continue to be masters at working in the "GREY" areas and it seems Iowa under Brands has been either unwilling, or, more likely, unable to do.
I would happily defer to Mr. Nicolls on this subject. He has said some things on here along with hinting about others, that should make this pretty clear to those able to read between the lines...

It appears to be a very major part of why they lost the Rainey's, Bassetts and Miller. With them, do you not believe they would be challenging both teams rather well?Everyone acknowledges the resources these programs have. It doesn't explain why we're headed to our 3rd straight finish of 4th or worse and why next season looks so bleak.
