Cohen apparently doesn't subscribe to the idea of watching pitch counts

What's the max # of pitches Chad has thrown in a game all year - maybe 40-50? And today we throw him out there late in the season for 120+

that this was supposed to be a "bullpen game" and the pitchers were supposed to go one inning?

I guess since we play Thurs, Fri., Sat, Cohen and he apparently thought Girodo looked good early, he decided to just save the staff for the weekend. Don't laugh.

They all know their jobs depend on how many games they win this year a hell of a lot more than how many arms they've ruined.

Two of the worst f all time are also, two of the most successful college coaches of all time. Skip Bertman and Cliff Gustafson.

College coaches really don't care about pitchers re: overuse. Bertman used to overthrow the **** out of people at LSU, and Prior's coach at USC was also notorious for overusing pitchers. I remember reading an article that some analyst wrote based on some equation he made up that could foretell which pitchers would have arm issues in the pros based on his use in college, and it was eerily accurate. I'll see if I can dig it up.

He's had a ton of ruined arms in his career. And our coach is no better (he arguably may even be worse). You're absolutely right about Bertman and Gustafson being two of the worst ever. But Bianco and Cohen aren't any better. Neither are most college coaches.

And if you want to bring Polk into the equation, back in 1985 our regular routine was for Brantley and Morgan to both pitch 7-inning complete games on Saturday and then split the Wednesday game with 5 innings for Brantley and 4 for Morgan. Brantley was lucky. His arm withstood it. Morgan, not so much. He was every bit as good as Brantley was, but his arm was shot by the time he left MSU. That was theyear Bertman said, "When you play Mississippi State, you just hope to salvage the Sunday game to avoid being swept."</p>

The glaring difference between Gus and Bertman, and Bianco and Cohen is Gus and Bertman won multiple national championships.

Not that that completely excuses how they destroyed really talented pitchers. But it's at least a mitigating factor.
