For some reason, I always thought that Cohen and Bianco didn't like each other. I seem to remember when Kentucky played Ole Miss last year they had a few shouting matches back and forth. Maybe it's their competitive nature? Great read though.

I didn't see where it said they liked each other. It sounds to me like they're capable of being cordial, but I get the feeling that with both of them being so competitive, they grate at each other.

an altercation in the not too distant future. None whatsoever.

Cohen needs to keep his *** quiet this year and next, but he won't be able to.

2011 in Oxford will be electric.

I think they have great respect for each other, but aren't going to go have a beer together.</p>

Good call, per 2HD's latest blog entry:

"Quite frankly, it's an exciting time for Ole Miss, because they're gonna catch us when we're down, and they better get us when we're down, because we're not gonna be down for long."--John Cohen

They cannot help themselves. Ultra high end competitors typically control neither their mouths nor their emotions.

Mark my words. There will be a direct confrontation as long as Cohen and Bianco are coaching where they are now. Inevitable.

And that's why I say that though I don't like Cohen, I think him being at MSU and Bianco at Ole Miss will be great for the baseball rivalry. For one, I think he'll at least make you competitive. And he'll do it in a way that will grate at Bianco. I definitely expect things to heat up quite a bit in the near future. It can't hurt either school if the rivalry intensifies.

Basically, think Duke-UNC basketball on an obviously smaller scale. Those two programs hate each other, but I'd argue that both being successful and creating that heated rivalry helps to further their ability to recruit. For instance, if Coach K left and Duke became middle of the pack, part of the draw to UNC of playing in the Duke-UNC game wouldn't be quite the same. I'm hoping that can happen on a smaller scale with our baseball programs, if the baseball rivalry can become intense enough to be fairly well known regionally.

I think Cohen will make us more than just competitive in future seasons, or we have the wrong coach.

I attended that series in Baton Rouge 20 years ago. IIRC, we were #1 and lsu #2 in the country. My buddies and I were packed in lsu's stadium like sardines. Winning the DH 4-3, 4-3 and beating McDonald was sweet indeed. We got our doors blown off in the Sunday game.

Andy Kennedy has made OM competitive. Good for him. That is simply not good enough for MS baseball though. Cohen was brought in to win Championships, not be 'competitive'. Throw your back-handed comments around while you can, Bruiser. You won't have the opportunity to soon.
