I just talked to a very reliable source and he told me that Cohen called Artigues at SELA and asked out of the contract for next year. Artigues let him, but only after letting him know he was disappointed..<div>

And I am very disappointed in Cohen. That said, until I have any reason to believe it's true, as far as I'm concerned it's not.

That Cohen is the same guy that begged Nicholls State to play them last year, and then when Nicholls ran out of town, he had a scrimmage anyway, right?

I think that there is more to this. I imagine that it is probably because we wanted to play someone different that was comparable like Western Kentucky or someone like that. We probably kept them around on the schedule just in case we couldn't find someone else.

If he got out of the contract because he is "scared" of them, which knowing Cohen I highly doubt that is the case, it's bullcrap and embarassing.

I can understand Artigues being disappointed though, regardless. They won 37 games or so last year, and got left out because of RPI. Just stepping onto the same field as MSU is beneficial to them.

Funny that you posted this tonight because I thought about starting a thread after what I heard. My source heard it straight from Cohen's mouth to the SELA coach that we sure as heck want another shot at them next year. He said the recent series "gave our guys a cup check". However, something about our scheduling during that part of the season next year is making it highly unlikely to happen. Not trying to discredit your source, just saying mine heard it straight from the horse's mouth at a local Starkville sporting event. Things are looking up boys, I think Cohen has a great plan in place.

It isn't like basketball where the SEC is a 4th or 5th best team. We're the 17ing Big East of baseball. You can not qualify for the conference tournament and still have a reasonable chance at getting into a regional some years.

Have a good SEC record and I could care less if we're playing ICC in OOC.

if we were going to play them during the midweek or on the weekend? I can't recall a time where we played the exact same small school mid-major two years in a row on the weekend.

I had forgotten that Artiques is the coach at SELA. He is a very good coach and had a great program at Pearl River C. C. No wonder we had a hard time with them.

I talked to 2 more sources today that confirmed this. Said that Cohen said it was a "scheduling conflict" and had "nothing to do with the sweep."
