If MSU baseball is not in the top 8 in SEC in 2011 then we need to move on. I guess if we finished #9 and still made a regional that would buy him another year. We might not win another game this year. If a team cannot win 10 SEC games by the coach's third season...he should be fired.<div>

Cohen has one class of recruits on the field...look at the pitchers left to him on the roster by Polk- it's downright criminal to have to play in the SEC with that.

While we do need to improve defensively, our pitching is God-awful...and you can't expect a bunch of Freshman arms to come into the best conference in the nation and help that immediately.

That Cohen chose to run off the majority of the pitchers that were here when he got here? The ones that didnt get run off got injured, just the perfect storm for a terrible pitching staff. Cohen is the one who has chosen to go so young and he is taking the lumps for it, hopefully it pays off next year and the year after, and if it does then we will look back on this year and thank him for pitching these guys this year, but he is taking a big risk doing this.

The pitching talent was awesome last year, and the year before that. Where the hell have you been? Last year's staff couldn't throw strikes to save its life. And as Todd has pointed out, the team ERA was down half a run from the year before.

And, hell, didn't everyone on this board want Cohen to run off the entire team last year?

I can not believe I'm on Coach34's side in an argument.

Cohen is failing at coaching fundementals...fielding is horrible, base running sux, & pitching. Hitting is doing ok, just ok.

Last year the pitching was so ******, we couldn't even compete with the other teams. Everyone was in agreement when Cohen said he just had to get people to throw strikes. He had to recruit so many pitchers that he didn't have enough spots for the other 8 positions. There has to be some kind of class balance in your recruiting. As for the people who say Cohen isn't teaching fundamentals, I am pretty sure a senior 2nd baseman is supposed to know how to field a 17ing ground ball by now. That would be like Stans having to teach dribbling every year. Some people just aren't good enough to play at the SEC level. We have too many Delta St. players on our roster to compete in the SEC. Making the SEC tourney is making a regional pretty much. Hell, we have made regionals without even making the tourney.

Ok, so instead of walking in the winning runs, we now throw hittable strikes that our fielders can't field. Yeah, there is a difference there, but with the same results. Cohen needs to coach.

all I know is...by Cohen's 3rd year we should be in the top 8 of the SEC. That's not asking too much.

Yes you might see LSU or UM have a freshman start but we are talking almost an entire team. Cohen can't only fix this thing at a certain pace. We just had too many holes to fill with one recruiting class. We are competitive for the most part. We played one of the hardest out of conference schedules in the country. It just takes time to makeover an entire team. Our baseball team was in far worse shape than football when Croom took over. Somehow a RB coach with no head coaching experience got a free pass for 3 or 4 years. Cohen has won everywhere he has been and people are calling for his head at the end of year 2.

It's a amazing to me that you people can blame a coach bc a kid can't catch and throw. Do you think Cohen doesn't practice them hard enough? Absolutely ridiculous. If the talent isn't there, it doesn't matter how good the coach is. Ask Charlie Weis.

Forget the past..........

Sure we suck right now in baseball, but regardless of what any of you say we have been pretty irrelevant since Polk's return. Yeah we made it to the 2007 world series but we also got hot at the right time. Does it take away from the fact that we went? No, but don't be a fool and think we were something we weren't. We have been mediocre at best since 1998 and consistently dropping.

Do I think Cohen is going to turn it around? I have no 17ing idea right now and neither does anyone else. It doesn't appear so at the moment, but he deserves 4 years regardless of what happens. Any argument to that is dumb and I won't even bother reading it.

Stansbury: yes he has had winning seasons and won more than anyone else, but he has slowly declined and made it apparent he won't give in to change or try and make changes. Should he be fired right now? 17 no, but if his *** pulls the same **** over the next two years, i'd fire him. Making the NCAAT isn't enough anymore. We should expect to go there yearly.

<span style="font-weight: bold;">My question is how/why can/would you be calling for Cohen's head after less than 2 years but not at the same time you believe Stansbury deserves no criticism (major criticism). At least be consistent.</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"><br style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Is it a personal opinion? If so, grow the 17 up and try and be objective.</span>

Stans usually wins games at MSU and so far Cohen usually loses games at MSU.<div>

</div><div>You have to remember everyone says when a new coach is hired that he has time to clean up the mess left behind, and everyone always says that they are going to give the new coach time to get his players in school. This works right up to the point where your team doesn't look competitive. At that point, he has had enough time regardless of how long he has been on campus and his *** needs to be fired.</div>

Cohen needs to make it to Hoover in 2011 or go find another job - with one exception. The exception being he finishes 9th but still makes a regional ,which has happened a couple of times in the past.

If you are a Top 8 SEC program, then you are probably a national Top 40 program. I realize this.But its gonna get really sticky next year with the fans if he has another year where he only wins 7-9 conference games. I could see a really divided fan base on how Cohen's future looks as skipper. From the basball Ive watched this year, the class he brought in this year is pretty overrated besides Stratton and Girado. Sam Frost and the JC transfer Ogden are really not the answer to get to where we need to be .

Maybe when Routt gets healthy and Stratton and Girado have anothe year under their belt , we will have a rotation we can depend on. Lets hope. Just my .02 cents

Plus, if you can find this mythical poster you are referring to, you should take it up with them. And just so we are clear, youdirected your post atsomeone who A) is calling for Cohen to be fired TODAY and B) believes Stans should never be criticisized.

I'd say that's about .000001% of our fanbase.

The other has had success but has underachieved immensely the last 3 years. Does he need to be fired? No. Should he be under major scrutiny? Yes. Is he by most on this board? No. My post was directed at this board. Not at one particular poster.

Most of the same people calling for Cohen's head will **** gold bricks if you criticize Stans at all. Thats what I don't understand and where my question was directed. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough.

but I still feel like a lot of that is directed at me, or someone like me, because I think Stans is criticisized waytoo much on here by some (we all know who) and Cohen is incredibly unimpressive. If not for Cohen's resume he built at Kentucky, I'd wonder if the man even has a clue as to what he's doing.

because lack of hitting and pitching talent can be solved eventually with recruiting but right now we can't make the most basic plays on defense. Saturday, in one inning, though neither showed up as an error we blew 2 sure double plays because a. the 2nd baseman to SS transfer took forever and then later b. because the pitcher covering first base couldn't find the bag. These were just 2 quick examples of our lack of ability to execute basic defensive plays where both cost us valuable runs. You know you don't have to be the most talented team out there just to make fundamental plays on defense.

Nope, not really. 2 Southland championships a decade ago do nothingfor me now.

He certainly has done less than nothing so far at MSU.

I thought Cohen was going to be good. He still could be. See his first two years at Kentucky. Or he may just flop.

2 things are clear: Cohen hasn't been good the first 2 years and Stansbury has seriously underachieved the past 3 years if not longer. I'd call it overrated.
