i remember the first couple of years bianco was at um after they got beat by arky state or somebody close to asu in talent, i was out riding around and came by the um bb stadium. it was about 30 minutes after the game. the whole team was running the stadium steps.i saw that several times during his early years. no need foranybody to say cohen is to rough gruff etc.. when comparing these two coaches.

toughness is fine and needed there is a line between being tough and just being a jerk. bianco has run their butts off and yells in private but i've never heard him throw his players under the bus like cohen does. i'm not really trying to critcize cohen too much cause maybe its what is needed right now and the guy has been successful but i don't think the comparison to bianco is quite on the mark.

during a series, they had to run five miles or something, I saw them going through the square. Well they played like **** after that and lost, and most blamed it on that stupid running. Only point is that it's not like people haven't criticized Bianco too. Plus he bunts at dumb times.

you can be whatever you want if you win. If you lose and be an ***, the players hate your guts.

If he didn't win, the way he treats his players and coaches would be a major concern. No one cares though because he's an evil genius, and players still buy into his ways because they know he wins.

I do think the comparison between Cohen and Bianco is off too though. They are both hardasses, but they go about it differently. As jacksonreb says, Cohen does it more publicly and seems to get into it with umpires more often as well. He gets tossed more often. Bianco is tough too, but you don't see it as often from him in public or with the umpires. It's mostly within the private team setting with Bianco.

ETA: I like Cohen at MSU though, because he and Bianco seem to have some tension between them that I believe dates back to their playing days at MSU and LSU. They're both competitors, and I think their personal rivalry will drive both of them to work that much harder to try to out-perform the other. It's probably a good thing for both programs that they are facing off in-state as part of a rivalry. You can tell that they say the right things in the press, but you can also tell that they don't really have a relationship off the field, because I think they don't like each other.

when I moved here to Louisiana we were at a coaching clinic. And I proceed to hear one of the coaches talking about how one time Saban called all his coaches at 4am during vacation to tell them to get their *** back to work by 8 am the next day. 2 of the coaches were out of the country.

Apparently, he had found something on film he hadnt seen before and they had to get it worked out to his satisfaction

He's a micromanager and a perfectionist. It's those qualities that are the reasons he excels, but he will never benefit from staff continuity. Like I said though, those issues will never be raised by an employer of his unless he starts losing. If he started losing, the high staff turnover and the way he treats his team and players would be raised as concerns. As long as he's winning, it doesn't matter.

is because we have fans that are too stupid to realize that our players aren't very good. He's trying to change the mentality of our fans to- from Polk recruited you, you must be awesome to we demand that you perform and win.

Just like pretty much everyone else's fans in the country.

Personally, I don't think there's a problem with expecting your players to perform. I don't think that there's a problem with holding college kids responsible for their actions. Ultimately, Cohen also has a responsibility to get the players ready for the next level of baseball- no matter what their potential is for pro ball. That is what he is doing.

Also, he is trying to get players that fit his style more. I think he wants to make darn sure that the players that come to MSU know what is expected of them and that they are expected to perform. What you end up with are people that want to compete and get better and play at the highest level.

I have honestly never seen Cohen say anything where I thought "If he said that about my son, we would have to talk."

....when Cohen turns this thing around in a year or two and he dominates MS.

"Coach Cohen is mean."
"He blames losing on his players."
"He is not a Christian."
