Kid reminds me a lot of Jason Leger. Tough, country strong kid with a mean streak. I like the film on Horton also. Maybe we sign better prospects, maybe we don't. We shall see.
He committed to Felon University as posted earlier in thread.Well, is it tomorrow yet?
The plan is to take 2 more tackles. Wills is obviously at the top of the board. Obinna Eze is 2nd on the board and we are probably in his top 3Right. Kentucky only has 9 seniors on scholarship this year, so the 2017 recruiting class will be a small class. Kentucky already has Dotson, who is a tackle. Stoops wants 1 more tackle. They want Wills, but they would be glad to take Thayer Munford or Toryque Bateman. They won't take any guards this year because they are set at the position with Meyers, Haynes, GAA, Fortner.
Horton is only 6' maybe 6'1" with short arms and he lacks an explosive first step. His lack of height and his short wingspan are a big concern. It means that he has a small tackle radius and it's an even bigger issue if he's not fast enough to run down guys that are out of his reach.Have you looked at Horton's offer sheet? I will grant you that more offers could come in the fall. But Belfry isn't exactly a secret football team. And at this point, not a single significant program seems to be interested. It isn't about his height.
Unbelievable the vitriol that is on this thread because of this kid's college choice. No one would even be talking about him if he was from Indiana or Tennessee.
Must we get every Kentucky kid? No. Will we get them all? Heck no. We've tried signing mostly Kentucky kids and that led us nowhere.
This isn't Landon Young or Jedrick Wills. He is just another prospect.
Stupid mistake by this staff. In state kid of this caliber is a take, period.
With the limited scholarships this year, and the fact we are heavy at that position....what position of need would you have passed on for CB?
What have you seen from him that the staff didn't?
I also find this hard to believe, one does not play for Phillip Haywood and have a bad work ethic, he has won over 400 games and still going !This is not what I've heard
To me, you have to recruit your state first. Especially when theres limited talent here.
I understand he wasnt a position of need. If he beats out another player, they transfer. If not, he transfers. Yes, we're tight on scholarships. But to me, we're not so tight that we pass on a 3 star in state player with major offers.
I know people close to the Belfry program. Bentley is known to have a bad work ethic. That's one of the biggest reasons I didn't care if UK offered.

What Horton does have is incredible strength and a good motor. He uses those two advantages to dominate HS competition and win reps in a camp setting where he can drive someone onto their back without pads. He won't get away with bull rushing through the chest of SEC offensive linemen and his short arms will make it tough for him to shed blockers
Cade Mays is a 4* Tennessee Commit who was invited to the Rival's 5* Challenge
Ray Horton ate Mays up and spat him out in a game setting.
No doubt his wingspan and height are what is holding him back... but I would rather have one Ray Horton who knows how to play football and knows how to disrupt and read plays, as opposed to 10 of the numerous DT busts we have had.
Matt Elam has the height and wingspan, but if he had 1/5 of Horton's motor, footwork, and ability to fire out low and hard he wouldn't be nearly as ineffective as he has been.
Horton, from an on the field perspective, is probably the most dominant HS D-LInemen to come out of KY since Dennis Johnson.
This is called thinking with your heart and not your head. He is a good player and may turn into a great college player but we have signed better players at his position over the last couple of years. When you have limited scholarships, you don't waste them on players you don't need just because they are instate kids. Do you want the best players in the country or the best players in Kentucky? UofL is not beating us out of very many players that we both are offering. They are signing players that we don't want for the most part. This is a good sign that we should have superior talent in the coming years.
High praise indeed. Peters came from Louisville, but I don't think he really emerged until he was a senior at UK, and that was without Jarmon so he was double teamed almost every play.
But I was very impressed with Horton's highlight film, much better than most IMO, I didn't notice his short arms or heght.

its a heck of a lot easier to kick someone inside than outside. if we are taking 3 OT's this year then one is getting kicked inside eventually. cole just does not even come close to being an OT.
