Last years baseball championship series final averaged 2.7 million viewers. This years softball averaged 2.3 million viewers.
Softball is almost as popular as baseball. But we pay our softball coach $200,000 a year, while we pay our baseball coach 3 million per year.

I only saw a portion of one of the final games. I probably would have watched, but it conflicted with me watching bloodsport for the 87th time.

Softball tickets are $5 ea. Standing room only tickets at The Dude are $22. Chairback's are much more and come with a 10 yr contract. Left field lounges will be $4000 this year plus tickets and there's 88 of them. What's your point?

Are you suggesting that MSU use TV ratings of the CWS as a metric to determine what they pay their softball and baseball coaches? What do those numbers have to do with the market rate for coaches in Starkville?

The point is that the baseball still looses more money than the softball team. And the amount of discrepancy in pay between our baseball and softball isn’t justified.

The discrepancy exists because of the popularity within the SEC and our fan base. Not some viewer numbers from ESPN. I guess the stadium seating discrepancy isn’t justified either?

It's justified if the market will bear it. From what I hear, Ricketts has had opps to leave for more $, but likes what she has here. After the Top 15 highest paid coaches everyone else is under $300,000. Only 1 makes over $625,000 and that's Patty Gasso who has won 8 WCWS championships and been to it 14 times...both since 2000.

I’d argue neither of them really move the needle.
Baseball certainly isn’t like football, but I’m guessing at state it moves the needle as much as men’s basketball? Getting people to campus is a big part of recruitment and I think baseball probably does that more than basketball. Tv exposure counts too, so maybe that pushes basketball ahead. Need more tailgating and after parties for Saturday baseball game to make it a bigger thing for high school students to do in the spring.

It moves the needle more than men's basketball at state, unfortunately. I've always preferred basketball, so when there is a game at the hump and a game at the dude at the same time, the hump suffers.

Yes it is justified

and is lOses
Thanks Vanna. And by justification, I’m not meaning your personal preference or not. Our baseball team’s expenses exceeded revenue by $3.15 million in 2024. So there is no justification to pay the baseball coach 3 million a year, the highest or second highest in the country, and then only pay the softball coach 176 thousand last year, which is the bottom of the conference.

I’ve posted the popularity and viewership numbers between the two. Then there is a recent clarion ledger article saying that our baseball team lost $3.15 million last year in 2024. There’s plenty of other data out there to look up and provide for you. I’d do that if you were my English teacher and it was for a grade.

I can tell you aren’t really smart but alumni and boosters get to contribute where they want to.

if you wanna get a better softball coach, pony up.
