One of our fellow posters and I were discussing football on the phone today, and we came to the conclusion that this playoff system and our negativity as State fans could collide in a few years. Our prediction....we will finally have the stars align and go 12-0 in 2015. We will be ranked #1 and win the SEC Championship. Instead of getting to then play in the National Championship Game like all of our predecessors.....we will instead be the #1 seed in the new playoff system and matched up with #4 seed Alabama. They will beat us and then win the National Championship....we are m-state. It's sad to have been raised in this state of mind.

I think the larger the playoff is, the better chance we have of winning a national title (granted we're talking 1 out of 300 vs. 1 out of 500 here). We're a lot more likely to get hot for a 2-3 weeks after a 10-2 season (which happened 13 years ago) and beat up on some non-SEC teams than actually go 12-0 and be ranked in the top 2.<div>
</div><div>Again, before NAFOOM starts an obsessive thread about this post, this is merely a thought experiment about something that's extremely unlikely.</div>

sorry, just ain't gonna happen, not to mention it would be hard to ***** about going undefeated and winning the SEC title to play in the biggest sporting event in decades. And is losing to #4 really that much worse than losing to #2? Also, not gonna happen. Indian burial grounds n ****.

However, obviously if you can get in, you have a better shot than when you can't. Hell, in football, any given saturday/sunday they say. A bad bounce or a tipped ball, anyone can win, even over a much better opponent. I completely agree with you. Either of us is much more likely to make a 16 team field some day, and from there, catch a few breaks, even over better teams. Being 1-2, just ain't gonna happen in the next few years for either of us. Hell, they'd probably just say the SEC is obviously having a down year anyway, and say Ole State doesn't deserve it.
