Why doesn't the sec have wrestling? They may have it, I'm not sure so anyone enlighten me. I know a lot of the northern schools do and I'd like for mississippi get into the sport at the high school level and in college. I believe the south would dominate in this sport. Give kids another opportunity to get a scholly to college and so forth.

Because big athletic guys that are tough to get on the ground or can manhandle people become running backs and linebackers in the south.

Mississippi is actually the only state that doesn't have high school wrestling. I pledged with a high school All-American and 3 other guys who were big into it (one now a high school wrestling coach) and we could never really figure out why Mississippi didn't have it. I honestly believe we don't have lacrosse because no one would give a **** about it.

Would be nice to add a women's sport to get men's soccer. However UK and USCe have it, do that too. C-USA soccer.

Went to high school with 2 guys who signed D1 scholarships to play soccer and several others who played it in JUCO around the country. I don't know how hard it would be to field a decently competitive team using the Dan Mullen model of getting a few guys from Mississippi and filling in spots from all over. Not national champ worthy, but at least .500. I think people would go.

Correct. Auburn had a nationally ranked program but ended it due to Title IX. Mississippi is the only southern state without high school wrestling that I am aware of...Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida all do -- I know that for sure. But as explained to me when I enrolled at State, Mississippi ain't got nothin that don't end in 'ball.

To be competitive in collegiate soccer, you got to look all over. You might as well just call Belhaven's Men's Soccer Team as their International Students Association: Link.

I'm not sure how many MS players could cut it if they treated soccer like they do football (not saying they would). I know William Carey used to use a lot of international students on their A squad, but I think their rules are different regarding playing pro overseas. I would love to get a team though.

Actually Ocean Springs has a wrestling team now. Not sure what all other schools have it for them to compete against.

Brandon had a soccer guy on the USA under 18 team a few years ago

I don't know if he was an anomaly or not but a lot more high schools have soccer now. We know MS produces the athletes per capita.

Any truth to the rumor that Heidenreich has been househunting at Old Waverly?

Unless something has drastically changed in the last 5-10 years, MS is so far behind states like Florida, Texas, even Georgia in soccer it's not even funny. Anyone in ODP or select that made regionals could probably attest to that. We have improved, but not enough to catch up.

Besides the coast, Hattiesburg, Jackson metro or Memphis metro area, there just isn't any emphasis or competition in soccer. Or at least there wasn't when I was playing.

The SEC only plays sports that they dominate. If basketball doesn't get their act together soon......

And it was the coast I was referring to. We are pumping in kids from all over for tennis. Why not soccer? Keep the 4-5 Mississippi guys who are worth a damn over a rolling 4 year period and fill in from Alabama/near by states and Europe. There's a kid who's a 1st sub for the USMNT this summer born in Mobile...
