Like this follow-up to your post from yesterday. Collin can shoot!41% on the year to date.
Honestly his demeanor probably isn’t the coolest to them but we don’t know how he sets rules like that outside the game or if he even promotes his beliefs on any of them honestly. He probably tries to be a role model and mold them into respectable men but that is an issue for young men with money everywhere.Probably because he's an already married Mormon who doesn't drink or party by default.
His real age may be 21 (or whatever) but his normal person living life age is like 35.
I wish more people would talk about Pope's Mormonism beliefs as a potential reason why recruits don't want to come here, but no one seems to have the guts. I don't even know if it's allowed.
However, think about it. Most of these recruits are young African Americans, many growing up poor in single mother family households. With NIL, now they are instant millionaires.
You don't think some of the best are looking forward to going out partying (on off nights) with college girls all over them?
You don't think the best prioritizes money and access to nice things over being watched over 100% of the time?
They want to get to the NBA, get rich, and bang chicks.
This directly goes against Pope's morality. He has them on a tight leash. Probably can't drink, doesn't want them out at bars, doesn't want them having pre marital relations. That's not fun. I mean, Wilt Chamberlain was good and look at him. I mean Pitino was hooking up these guys with escorts for a reason lol.
Do you really think most top recruits want to hear Pope preaching about God everyday?
Good thing On3 doesn't have a down vote button, lol.
JJ and Aberdeen now right at 39%. Oweh on the other hand is trending downward. Often times his shots have no chance of going in. Lucky for him he has no memory. lol. His first 4 threes were bad and he just nailed that 5th one and it was big.Like this follow-up to your post from yesterday. Collin can shoot!
He’s a lot of things. A good defender isn’t one of them. Watch how many times he got absolutely abused on the ball in this game. Give him credit though, played the passing lane and made the steal that basically won the game.Dilly was super quick and shifty, not a great facilities or defensive player
Collin is a facilitator, does not force shots, and is a good defender. Has unlimited range on his 3 point shot.
Hopefully, he has turned the corner after several poor games in a row. We really need him to play like he did in the LSU game.
Not many players have Dilly’s skills.
It’s different shooting 3s vs Tennessee Tech. Today he shot it well vs a team with a pulse. He needs to continue that trend.Yeah you get judged on your whole body of work just not the last month. If he shoots like crap the rest of the year and ends up under 30% then you can say his 3 point shooting was horrid. He is one of the few guys who gives 100% and is unselfish sometimes to unselfish. He may not be all sec material but guys like him are on every good team.
This.. may be.....the most brain dead post I have seen on RR....and Brother, that's saying a lotProbably because he's an already married Mormon who doesn't drink or party by default.

Shot 3-5 against Ill and UT last year in the tourney. Shot well against UL and Mich St. this year as well as the last two SEC games. Not saying he’s the next Curry but he HAS done it against good competition before. It’s different shooting 3s vs Tennessee Tech. Today he shot it well vs a team with a pulse. He needs to continue that trend.
Of course competition matters. He shot it well against Louisville too . Hopefully he continues to knock them down. It’s different shooting 3s vs Tennessee Tech. Today he shot it well vs a team with a pulse. He needs to continue that trend.
Chandler’s biggest problem on offense is that he has no mid-range game at all. Love his hustle.Shot 3-5 against Ill and UT last year in the tourney. The biggest moment and the one that told me he was going to call out today was right after Collin came into the game and he missed his first shot. Usually after that he would disappear and melt into a timid ghost but not today. The next time down the floor the kick it out to him on the corner and he pulled the trigger immediately with a guy kn him and drained it!!Two minutes left in the first half. Steal and monster dunk to cut it to ten. Made up for a previous bad play. Respect. He made some good plays instead of folding after bad ones. Everybody balled second half.
Sure, he has. Just need to see it consistently. Everyone wants to know where he went after his “hot start”. His hot start was against hot garbage competition. Hopefully the last two games are the beginning of him figuring it out.Shot 3-5 against Ill and UT last year in the tourney. He looked confident today. Normally he looks like a cat on a hot tin roof against good teams. Was good to see today. I do need him to figure out how to play defense on the ball though. As good as he was offensively, and as timely as that late steal was, he just got abused in the second half. Need him to just be competent on the ball. Doesn’t even have to be good.Of course competition matters. He shot it well against Louisville too . Hopefully he continues to knock them down.
Yeah, I know, my comment was half way tongue and cheek. I know a bunch of them grow up in religious households. Plus most sports stars tribute every win to God anyway (like God would care about your performance and team over the other team's players and performance. Guess you must have prayed harder than them?)Honestly his demeanor probably isn’t the coolest to them but we don’t know how he sets rules like that outside the game or if he even promotes his beliefs on any of them honestly. Pope doesn’t push his religious beliefs on his team. I’ve seen the players out partying after games. In fact CMP doesn’t even talk about religion. He was in the NBA and played under Pitino. He lets them be them.Yeah, I know, my comment was half way tongue and cheek. I know a bunch of them grow up in religious households. I was halfway joking. A lot of them probably appreciate the religious aspect TBH.
Yeah, I know a bunch of rural coal minors from Kentucky are still stuck on the "religion is actually real" thing. I didn't expect you to understand. The Mormon religion is objectively the most unbelievable religion out of, probably, any religion I have ever heard of.This.. may be.....the most brain dead post I have seen on RR....and Brother, that's saying a lot
I was partially (mainly) joking. However, it is still unclear why he is not getting top recruits. I was just speculating in a funny way that I knew would upset some hardcore religious BBNers.Pope doesn’t push his religious beliefs on his team. I’ve seen the players out partying after games. I went to go see the "Book of Mormon" play plus watched the South Park episode, so I'm basically an expert..... /s

IDK, guess you must be a Mormon coal minor. And just when I thought it couldn't get worse...
Exactly.White players are high IQ and good shooters. black players are fast and athletic.
What? I grew up in that era.
Bottom line it was a moronic and hateful post made by a bigot. Them you tried to hide behind it was tongue and cheek.I was partially (mainly) joking. However, it is still unclear why he is not getting top recruits. I was just speculating in a funny way that I knew would upset some hardcore religious BBNers.
However, I do think he has an emotional relationship with Chandler based on their religious connection. Sometimes it caused Pope to believe in Chandler more than everyone else did - even when he wasn't playing well.
However, Chandler has been pretty baller lately so IDK.
Also, how do you know Pope doesn't subtilty push religion on them? Are you on the team or direct staff?
BTW, Evangelism is a direct tenet of Mormonism. It is part of the reason Pope wanted to leave BYU to go to UK. He views it as part of his mission to expand the word as much as possible. BYU is already taken care of. Kentucky allows the opportunity to spread the word to BBN. (Pretty sure he has insinuated this at times, in the early days.)
Exactly.
Hopefully ICE doesn't come for Jelovic (or hopefully does), depends on how you view his play (he did have a horrible +/- today). He's not from America so we all know he doesn't fit the hard-working, lunch-pail kid, mould.
You forgot to mention that one group is "high IQ" and the other group Pope has to "dumb down" the offense for (his own words, not mine).
Hey man I’m the last one to give a **** what anybody talks about. I live in my true self so politics religion or any other bs topic doesnt offend me and I’ve always found it so odd why it is so offensive for other people…..Before anyone says, "This is a basketball forum, don't bring politics in here."
Well, the other day, our Lord-and-Savior, Matt Jones, devoted over a half hour to politics. Therefore, if our Lord can bring up politics on KSR (our Bible), then I can add in comments about politics as well - as long as it directly relates back to UK basketball.
However, Matt Jones keeps saying that women hit that ICE with her car - and that the results are open to interpretation. Our Savior must have been blinded (a struggle he must overcome), just like the refs were blinded during the UK vs. UT game, in favor of UT.
We all have eyes. There are videos of the incident and the game. We can clearly see, from multiple angles, that the ICE was not hit, nor injured. Just like we can see in the UK vs. UT game that the refs turned a blind eye towards many calls (we all know JJ clearly traveled).
In conclusion, Matt Jones may need to get glasses, just like the refs in the UK vs. UT game need to get glasses.
Yeah, I think Mormonism is a pretty ridiculous religion to believe in. It's probably the most easily disproven religion that is as popular as it is - with as much influence as it has. The creator was a known scammer for goodness sakeBottom line it was a moronic and hateful post made by a bigot. Them you tried to hide behind it was tongue and cheek.
This isn't the platform for this crap and you know it. Yours is a just look at me post. If you can't separate the person from the religion, then that shows you're very narrow minded.Yeah, I think Mormonism is a pretty ridiculous religion to believe in. There is literally a nationally touring, popular play that makes fun of it, while being accurate. Is everyone who goes to watch the play a bigot?
I also believe religion is an outdated concept and has historically done more harm than good for the world.
Note: I am not saying I have all the answers. What I am saying is that religion tends to make everyone "outsiders", if you don't believe in the same things they do. I could give extremely easy examples like ISIS.
I am poking fun at how ridiculous it is that athletes praise God for THEIR good performance. I am poking fun at the concept that when athletes "thank God" it makes no logical sense because it infers that God must like his team more than the other team. It also takes away from the hard work the individual person put in. "That was you man, not God".
I am saying my entire comment chain is "tounge-in-cheek".
I also do believe that Pope's heavy Mormon beliefs are weird as the coach of UK. I do think it could turn certain people off. Pope literally says going to UK is part of his (Mormon) mission.
I have no problem what anyone does, or believes, as long as it doesn't hurt others or infringe on others. However, more often than not, religion is used to hurt others. It's used to isolate others and lable them as "outsiders".
This is literally happening in the US currently. The "religious right" is literally telling people what they can and cannot do - even though it does not impact them in any way. So who is the actual bigot?
This is why I said I was only partially joking.
Right isn’t there a forum for religion and politicsThis isn't the platform for this crap and you know it. Yours is a just look at me post. If you can't separate the person from the religion, then that shows you're very narrow minded.
I am not a Mormon Sir, No. I just don't disrespect anyone else's right to be. You think Mormon is an ugly word. I think Bigotry is.IDK, guess you must be a Mormon coal minor.
Too bad our boy Musk has saved the universe with his electric cars. Just wait until he creates the "people-like robots" that cause his stock to grow so high. Then coal mining will truly be a thing of the past. At least Musk will give us Universal Income to fall back on - plus free ketamine for all.
Also, good thing Musk and Trump are boys again or we would have been screwed! Musk is going to infiltrate those computers again so the "radical left" doesn't "cheat" the election and impeach our savior Trump!
Thank you for your attention to this matter!
I say Pope is soft as a coach and all that good stuff but I never attached it to whatever religion he believes in. That’s a separate thing.I am not a Mormon Sir, No. I just don't disrespect anyone else's right to be. You think Mormon is an ugly word. I think Bigotry is.
Hey I didn’t say this, I’m always up for religion and politics. Never understood why people don’t like it. Part of my degrees are in both though, and my spare time is spent watching political and religious debates. So I definitely didn’t say it.Right isn’t there a forum for religion and politics
Na I wasn’t saying that towards you man lol meant the person you were talking toHey I didn’t say this, I’m always up for religion and politics. Never understood why people don’t like it. when you learn about the study of power from men who’ve been ingrained in it, and I have, you won’t have a party at all.
Would you like to get into it? Let’s go religion first?
Yeah, I think he obviously was reaching and went way too far. And its a false narrative. Over the course of Popes career, which, contrary to many on here, I think will be a long and successful one, Pope will do just fine as a recruiterI say Pope is soft as a coach and all that good stuff but I never attached it to whatever religion he believes in. That’s a separate thing.
I have used the word before. Like today i said he was the blue Morman or something but never as an insult. I just find it odd that we didn’t do Cal like that. I don’t remember anyway. People said he was a jerk and arrogant towards fans. Didn’t see them saying Cal was a catholic jerk. Just odd
What makes you think this? I see no evidence at all he’ll be fine as a recruiter. We see a lot of evidence directly to the contrary.Yeah, I think he obviously was reaching and went way too far.
