After thinking about it, I didn't believe I'd take Collins. Either get Stokes, Holt, or nobody from this class. Save the money for a portal stud or overseas pro.

Our insiders really kind of suck. First it was look for a Stokes commit(before the kicked out of school drama) now it was Collins will commit soon and now that isn't happening.
Actually they do. Tristan Newton at UConn was a portal kid. Damn near Florida's whole team last year were portal kids. But whatever Anon173682947729183728819. You know better.
having to use "tristan newton" as a example is hilarious. almost all of the top 15 freshman this yr are outplaying the top 15 transfer guys

There are some former portal players doing well for Uconn, illinois, Louisville, iowa state. Think either the top or 2nd leading scorer for all of those teams is either a first or second year portal player. There’s tons of portal players lighting it up.
I’d still like to get Collins and/or Stokes.

Yeah that's just one example. But I'm correct. UConn doesn't go back to back champs without him. How about Conwell for Louisville? He's not a portal stud? The last several seasons have been dominated by older transfers but you're trying to point to this season that's, what 4 games in? You're clearly wrong. You said there were no portal studs and I've listed several.
IU’s top 5 are seniors. IU jokes aside, theyve looked good so far.
Kansas has looked mediocre.
UNC…they’ve looked okay but i’m not a believer in Hubert Davis. But yeah wish we had gotten Wilson.
UCLA has 2 freshman and neither one of them has played.
Our best player has been Aberdeen and it’s not close.
Duke is Duke. i think we just gotta concede they have more money, influence and draw than us and it’s probably not going to change. I just think with the sports media and even sports governing body dick riding them seemingly eternally it’s unwise to try and beat them at their own game. Agree or no?

i think your 5th paragraph is the problem with our team, aberdeen being our best player isnt great, like i get the whole strength in numbers thing, but so far these last two teams havent been to strong towards the top

We have data about what champions look like. It looks nothing like what you imagine it to be. That said, we will add a couple of stud freshmen for sure but that’s not the only ingredient in the cake.

Speaking of Duke. Aberdeen reminds me a little of Scheyer in 2010. He wasn’t a point guard but had to play it out of necessity and they ended up winning ship.
Ofcourse they had nolan smith and kyle singler too. and they were all former 5*. but none of those guys were the go get the ball and go make a play one on one types really. But that didn’t mean they weren’t talented or good enough or bring enough to the table to play starter minutes on a title squad.
I mean look at that starting 5 and their nba careers?
It was Zoubek, Thomas, Plumlee, Scheyer, Singler and Smith that started most of their games. none of them were stars or even close to it. and singler and plumlee were the only ones that managed to hang around.
I think we have the players. Just gotta do a better job molding their skill sets into a dominant team with reasonable individual improvements and better offense and defense schemes.
And I’ll add learn to evaluate portal players better. I love Otega’s heart but he is a really good role player at best. Same with Mo, he’s a rim running rebounding machine that scores on put backs. The roster is overloaded with role players and no stars
Well, it’s funny you ask. It’s because that has literally been the championship blueprint for the last several years.
Did Florida have a bunch of stud OAD players last year? No, they didn’t. They had a lot of portal players and it wasn’t even a top portal class.
Did UConn have a bunch of stud OAD players in their 2023 and 2024 national championships? No, they had a bunch of portal pieces and not even top portal classes. They had one OAD (Castle) who was the No. 25 HS player, so in the Jasper or Malachi Moreno ballpark lol.
Did Kansas in 2022 have a bunch of OAD? No, even Kansas one of the top OAD schools won their only title in the last decade the one year where their lineup was a bunch of returnees and not stud freshmen.
Trust the process, bro. We can’t keep trying things that don’t work, especially in an era where the data is clear.

well those "old teams" actually had good seniors tho, braun and agbaji were as good as it gets, clayton was as good as it gets, i dont think currently aberdeen or mo is near that, like i said im not expecting a championship or anything like that this yr, i still think its a feel it out year, to get some momentum heading into next year
Think you’re missing the point with that comment. Go look at 2021 Kansas and compare to 2022. It takes time for those things to work. Best way we can be certain not to win titles is being short sighted and not building correctly

You would have said the same about UConn in 2022. You would have said the same about Kansas in 2021. We have to build rosters out of something other than “muh feelings”. I hate to say it, but that’s how these conversations go. People like you think it’s still 2014. When you’re shown that the model you’re craving for has no basis in reality, you just move the goalposts a little. This “make 2014 great again” idea is nothing more than a desperate emotional cry.
unless you can point me to a team that has built a roster the way you want us to that won a title in the last ten years. I’m all ears…show me.
I’ll keep on harping it, but Pope’s ability, or pack thereof, to land elite talent is going to put him in the dog house with boosters who are going to be wondering why their ridiculous amounts of cash isn’t amounting to anything but middle-of-the-road recruits and transfers.
If Pope wins on the court, the boosters ain’t gonna give a damn whether or not the SF was ranked 6th or 26th in high school. People need to give it some time before tapping the red button. We are three games in to year two

So we need to build a roster like the one we had 15 years ago during the height of the OAD era and ignore all the championships built since then in the portal era? That makes a lot of sense, Anon. Really wish you were building the rosters for us.

We are in the portal era, buddy. That’s the part you’re struggling to understand. All these teams winning titles are doing it primarily from the portal and with returnees. It’s not even debatable. What you’re doing is appealing to what we do not have and assuming that’s the answer, when it’s clear that it isn’t the solution. You’ve yet to show me any reason other than your feel feels to the contrary. Your example for roster building makes up 0.049% of the last 41 national championships. Yes, you read that right —- 0.049%. The other 99.951% were built on retention, which is what we are pursuing. What rational person would build upon the foundation of 0.049% versus 99.951%? No one would, unless it’s “muh feelings”.
