I thought Colorado Buffaloes would be doing a great job of recruiting since they opened their new facilities. However, Rivals has them ranked 45th. Not bad but I thought they might be ranked higher.

That seems like a pretty solid ranking to me, given the state of that program. McIntyre is a decent coach, but not a guy that I would expect to land a boatload of highly ranked recruits. I'm guessing they are thrilled to crack the top 50.

Cracking the top 45 at this point in time is really no big deal. They only have 4 recruits. Let's see what happens as the numbers add up.

I'm not saying it's a big deal, I'm saying it's pretty good for the Buffs. They might have been the worst Power Five program in the country when Mcintyre took over. They're modestly better now, but still not exactly a place recruits are rushing to.

It's amazing what happened to that program. Outside of '01 Miami the '94 Buffaloes might have been the most talented team Nebraska ever played (it was practically an NFL roster.) Looking back on it, our programs' downfalls were both triggered by the NU-CU game. We were never the same after the shellacking in '01 and I think it's safe to say that we landed the knockout blow to their program in '05 (the *** kickings each team suffered later; Miami for us, Texas for them, were just the icing on the respective cakes.)

Is it fair to say it was always somewhat more a party school ? Legal effects now; I would think could really complicate a coaches ability to get the team to the necessary level.

Colorado's problems were self inflicted by an Adminstration that thought they could become Stanford or Northwestern or Duke or Virginia. Right around the turn of the millennium, they stopped making academic acceptance concessions for football players. That lead to a bunch of 7 to 8 win football teams... Then they thought they could do better so they went after Dan Hawkins. This was a guy who had built Boise State almost solely thru the Cal JUCO ranks and guys who weren't quite PAC 12 ready. He had no experience trying to recruit athletes vs schools like Stanford or Duke or NW. After he left the administration once again failed to acknowledge their fault by hiring a man who was an NFL position coach,...

The biggest problem for the Buffs is keeping talent in state. There is enough power 5 talent in Colorado to sign 8 - 10 local guys every year.

Until they can beat Oregon, UCLA, USC or Stanford they will never sniff a PAC 12 title.
