Comcast vs. AT&T internet????

My community currently does not have affordable and reliable high speed internet access. (I've got Hughes.net but it's not really affordable, not reliable and NOT high speed!!) The community has banded together and we are actively recruiting companies in efforts to get them to bring us service.

I think that either AT&T or Comcast would be our most likely as they are the closest. We're only 4 miles from the last AT&T customer on our road and maybe 5 miles from the last Comcast customer.

Our community has started a call in campaign where everyone is calling AT&T and asking for the service. Local AT&T employees have told us that the equipment is in place and that corporate just has to "turn it up" what ever that means. Corporate tells us that our area is not in their 2011 plans and that the local guys don't know what they're talking about.

I really don't care which one we get as long as we get the service. However, I thought I would ask for information on both as we might try to push for one over the other.

So, for those that have had experience, which one would be better? AT&T or Comcast?

if you want TV and internet, I would probably try to get U-verse (ATT product). But for internet alone, Comcast is the best.

You can't beat the bundled Comcast price just because of the internet speed. AT&T was trying to get me to switch last week, and I'm getting Comcast's fastest internet for the same price as AT&T's. That was a no brainer, even the salesman told me it would be foolish to swap.

My monthly bill for DirecTV is right at $100/month and ATT is $50/month (fastest speed they offer).....I was beholden to this due to no cable service available in the subdivision (new)when I bought my house....but now I can get charter internet/phone/tv for $89/month....so I am possibly going to make the move if I cant get DirecTV to come down on their price

I can get on Comcast highest speed is $139/mo for internet only. I stick with the lowest speed they offer for $110 for basecable with sports tier and internet.

I lucked up on this back in February when I was adding a line for my home business. It's listed now for $199, but I have it for $159 for 12 months. They have different priced bundles. Like I said, you can't beat it for what's offered. It depends on what the price changes to in Feb as to what I do though.</p></div>

Comcast was a train wreck at my house, both for TV and internet. Half my channels were snowy and the internet liked to work on and off in five minute intervals. AT&T DSL was better, but still on and off. It would be fine, and fast, for a while, then like to cut off for about an hour sometimes. I had DSL when I had DirecTV. Great bundle, but they put a U-Verse sub station thing near my subdivision so I switched. U-Verse is so much better than anything else in my experience, but I don't think it is available in a lot of places (the super fast internet that is).

OR, spend a bunch of time and effort trying to get it via landline/coax and then end up with the same type of service in another 12-24 months.seems like a no brainer.

and my connection is fast as a Comet. ATT.....is stuck between an A and 2 T's.

But I do understand that each geographical region has its pros/cons. I have had nothing but trouble with ATT for a long time.

I wish it was that easy. AT&T has zero cell signal in our community. Cellular South/Verizon might have 2 bars on a clear day but let rain set in and that's gone. Plus, MiFi is $60 a month for 5GB of download data. That's less than Hughes.net download limit. Plus, if that worked, it would only help me and not the rest of the community of which some can't afford $60 a month.

AT&T offers 250GB a month at their highest speed for $19.99. We're going to need a land line or cable DSL?
