I know it's been discussed before but I want most recent opinons on Direct TV vs Comcast as I've got to find a way to cut some bills so the phone service and cable bills need to come down.

Currently on Comast for cable and internet and AT&T for phone. Are you people with directv pretty happy with the service and does anybody use the Comast phone service - if so what are opinions on that?

I have Comcast for TV, AT&T for phone and internet. Comcast is the worst run company in history. I can't get DirectTV or Dish because of trees. If you are looking to save money the last thing in the world you should consider is moving to Comcast for anything. One way you could save money right off the bat is switch your internet over to AT&T with your phone, and choose one of the lower speed DSL options. I did that a couple years ago just to lower my Comcast bill and it saves me about $25 per month. It literally makes me sick to my stomach every month to write my check out to Comcast. If you have more than one DVR box with Comcast then you are really getting screwed. Two DVR boxes will run you close to $40 per month.

and pay $120/month. It suits me fine. I have the Digital Starter Package and in addition, I get HD/DVR, HBO, Sports Package to get ESPNU. I have the 6 MB internet. The phone package is unlimited. The phone goes out maybe once every 3-4 months for about 2 hours tops which doesn't bother me.

But I will admit, sometimes I cuss the **** out of Comcast for leaving us with this ****** TV guide.

I pay over $120 per month just for cable with Comcast. I think my second DVR box, which isn't HD, runs about $25 per month or so, so that's probably the main source of my outrageous bill. I'm in Meridian, and we don't have to have any sports package to get ESPNU. And you are right, the guide is terrible, as are the boxes themselves.

All i know is that Comcast is absolutely terrible in the Memphis area. The HD channels skip and my internet goes down for a few hours every week. And God forbid you have to have a service call to your home. I waited at home for 4 hours and nobody ever showed up. I know friends with Directv and they have no problems.

I have DirectTV and love it, but it's not cheap. I have two HD receivers, get the ESPN Gameplan, March Mega Madness, and the NFL package plus a bunch of stuff the wife watches. I wouldn't have anything else but Direct TV. My cell is with AT and T, I think 150 minutes month, unlimited nights and weekends, three numbers for like $45 a month (I think), my land line and internet is with TDS for $85 monthly plus another $25 for unlimited LD back to MS and other southern environs.

no CSS which televises a good many SEC baseball and basketball games.

The good far outweighs the bad though.</p>

Switch your phone to Vonage. I've had it for years and have no complaints except for the terrible customer service, which I haven't needed to use in about 2 years. It is $25/ month for unlimited local and long distance. Another cool thing about Vonage is that you can set it up to also ring another (i.e. you cell) any time someone calls your Vonage number.

As an NFL fan, there is no option. DirecTV all the way. The Sunday Ticket is a life saver, otherwise I'd get stuck with nothing but the Saints and Titans each week. Forget that!

...is to switch back and forth from providers and take advantage of their promotions for new customers.

i have directv and have been pretty happy about it, minus a long hassle over locals (coast).

where I live which is quite frustrating although we get the network stations out of New York. Directv cannot be beaten for sports packages like MLB, NBA, NFL, College Gameplan. It is expensive but worth it in my opinion. By the way, the Directv service is also excellent.

is sh*t in Huntsville... expensive as all hell and HD picture quality is substandard.. I do give them credit for having a lot of HD channels (for cable) but I have occasional bouts of tiling, pixelation and sound issues as well. I think they're putting 3 HD channels on a frequency instead of 2. Whenever I'm able to, I'll be switching to DirecTV

. . . I had to deal with Comcast on my dad's 46" Samsung LCD. Having a 47" Vizio and Directv here in Texas, I could compare them.

There was no comparison. The craptacular "HD" that Comcast spews out is terrible. On a 120 Hz Sammy, I saw so much motion blur on Fox and ESPN that it was practically unwatchable. When I got back to Texas, it was so much clearer watching NBC and FOX NFL games on my 60 Hz Vizio and Directv . . . no motion blur at all.<span style="margin-left: -72px; margin-top: -36px; opacity: 0.25;" class="smarterwiki-popup-bubble smarterwiki-popup-bubble-active"><span class="smarterwiki-popup-bubble-body"><span class="smarterwiki-popup-bubble-links smarterwiki-clearfix"><span class="smarterwiki-popup-bubble-links-row smarterwiki-clearfix"> </span></span></span></span>

The only advantage Comcast may have is with a complete bundle package of cable, phone, and HSI. I use the cable company here for phone and internet, but I refuse to compromise TV with Charter out here. Though, honestly, Charter's picture is better than that fester pile that Comcast in Jackson delivers.

I do call the cable company every year to "re-negotiate" my rates phone and internet bundle rates. I probably save $25-$32 off the full price of services by calling once a year.
