I’m hearing they are having problems with the draining system on the new turf field. They may not get to play their home games at home this year. Where could they play their home games at. I heard they could play at web field but I just don’t see that happening there.

Could play there but absolutely no where for fans to park. It would be a disaster if 1,000. People showed up.

I read in the Independent tribune that they were going to play their 1st home game on Webb field. According to what I read the last time Concord played on that field was on Oct 28, 1966. They beat NW Cabarrus 39-6. I myself don’t anything about Webb field other than what I read.

After reading more into the Independent tribune it went on to say Mt Pleasant is getting turf. Hickory Ridge will be next. And the plan for NW Cabarrus is to build a new HS which will have turf and NW Cabarrus middle school will move into the old HS of NW Cabarrus. It went to say it’s not set in stone. Anyway that is their vision it sounds like.

I personally despise turf. It looks good. That’s the only good thing I’ve got to say about it. It will probably happen at some point but I hope South Point never goes that route. Play on grass like the Good Lord intended
A friend of mine said that SP will be getting turf soon. Not sure when, but he says it is in the works.

That won’t surprise me. I haven’t done any research on turf. I know it requires less maintenance and is easier to care for. What other advantages does turf offer? More or less injuries? What can I say, I’m old, I like grass.

Which is better for knees and elbows? Which is better for bones. I’ve walked on a turf twice in my life. I know it’s been around for a long time. I just hope like good whiskey it gets better with time.

Statsically - Turf does causes more injuries but I think do to Traction bc when u plant u ain’t going into dirt it’s plastic n such so BUT I think it could help slower team then faster teams

I think better bc - If done right - They look very nice like I think it’s West Hendo there field color combo is nice - U can play in rain , U can have multiple team plays on it and also it’s easier to maintain and it last 10-15 years so it saves $ in long run imo

SPRaiders78, could not agree with you more. Turf fields make want to hurl up my dinner every time I see one. Football should always be played on real grass. Though, I understand most no public high school has the resources to keep a grass field looking pristine all autumn with varsity and JV football and usually men's soccer as well. And if it rains and a football game has to be changed to a Thursday or Monday night that usually means a smaller gate and less money compared to a Friday night. Turf fields mean a game can still happen on Friday night even in the rain. But I am sure grass is much better for the players - less pounding on them and less likely to get your foot caught leading to ankle and knee injuries. Grass has a lot more give to it than turf.

Interesting. I made plans to go and spend time up in Cherokee in Sept. Going on 16th that morning to do some trout fishing and then catch the game at Cherokee high. They will play East Gaston. That was one of my bucket list trip to visit and see the stadium and their turf field.

That stadium at Cherokee is something else.

From what I seen, looks like they are making progress on the new turf now . Will it be ready before the end of the year. If I knew how to put a picture on here I would.

"Play on grass like the Good Lord intended" The "good Lord" didnt take into account that grass is gone about the middle of September every year, after youth league, soccer, middle school JV games and all the other events that grinds that grass into dust. Consider it the good Lords will that a solution to playing on painted dirt 2/3 of the year has been found.
