Dak will be fine by August- but we all know Dak isnt going to start. Russell is.

The worry comes in about the bowl streak staying alive. We can win 6 games with Dak at QB- grinding it out ball control, playing D...etc....alot of us are convinced if we run that same turd of a game plan we ran last year- we wont win 6 games. A new group of WR's doesnt help the situation.

It's a good discussion and has merits on both sides. But nobody thinks Dak is going to start at QB next year unless Tyler gets hurt or we get off to a very bad start on offense
I wanted to break off this thread from another and move it into a separate discussion and away from draft potential.

1. Do you really think Dak can lead us to 6 victories? Which ones are you counting with Dak/Dan's new "run-first-second-and-third" offense? Do you remember the last (half) year of the Relf-Coast offense in 2011. It wasn't pretty. I agree that the D is going to have to play light's out to win 6. The problem is the game plan, not the QB. We have to run the ball with success, inside and outside. But if we can't be balanced, we don't have a chance anyway. New WRs and new QB are not a good combination. Russell will get the ball to the WRs, it's up to them to catch it.

2. This whole "Concrete Feet" perception isn't what the film and numbers show. We had one of our lowest sack totals (16= <2/gm) in history with us throwing the ball more often and Tyler waiting for deeper routes to develop. And let's not forget that he ended with an excellent TD/Int ratio. Fans forget that Tyler moves well when we move the pocket. I hope that he's given more of a leash this year to float outside the pocket if he feels it breaking down. As the videos show below, he's got enough mobility to extend a play a la Tom Brady. So, the "Concrete Feet" should be retired until further notice.

I agree with Goat...

Russell gives us the best opportunity to win. I'm more worried about our offensive staff's inability to realize that we need to play a more physical running back than Perkins... Robinson has to get more carries as well as Milton.

In reference to #1, Dak is a far superior passer than Relf ever was. Dak is a much much better actual QB than Relf was. What Relf did cannot be assumed for what Dak will do.

Thank you, this is exactly right.

Also, notice how everyone saying "Russell gives us a better chance at success", also has tons of "IF's" in their posts. That's where common sense is being left out of the equation. First off, we all know Russell will start, especially now that Dak is hurt...but we also know that Mullen isn't going to do some major offensive overhaul all of the sudden, nor is he going to magically start using the bigger back. He is going to start Perkins.

So in other words, what skb, Coach, myself, and a few others, are saying is that everyone thinking Russell could win more games than Dak is assuming Mullen changes everything we've seen from him...and not only that, but that he changes it for ONE season and ONE season only. So not only is it some thing that will not happen, it also isn't worth changing for just one season. Especially when the most effective offense Mullen has ever had at MSU was with a running QB with nowhere near the passing capabilities as Dak, and the OLine was in a similar situation as this season where we should have a strong experienced group.

So everyone thinking and hoping that Mullen will change this and change that, you can put away your "ifs", and just start hoping that we can just make plays...because the offense will be very similar to what it was last year. We don't have a coach that knows how to call a passing attack, we have inexperienced WR's, and a small tailback that has no running QB next to him to help divert the pressure off of him in the ground game. I wish I was wrong on this, but at some point you have to start realizing that your best offense is the one your coach specializes in, and get back to it. I hope we can still manage 6 wins this year, but I know we will see a better offense in 2014 when we are back to what Mullen is comfortable with. I still don't think we've ever seen Mullen run his full offense, bc even with Relf he couldn't pass it enough to take pressure off of the ground game when needed.

I can't remember which game Milton fumbled in, but he never made it out if the doghouse after that. He runs hard. I hope to see him more next year.
