Not familiar with all of these teams and the yardage totals but surprised Lawson from WP didn't get 1st or 2nd team. He had over 1200 yards rushing. Not sure of how many TDs. Jefferson is well deserving of offensive poy. Any idea when the district teams come out? Also thanks for posting!!

I have those who made District from Charles City. Jefferson was Offensive POY for Districts and Anderson was Defensive POY.

Tyler finished with 828 yards and 10 TDs, but 607 of those yards came in District Play as well as 7 touchdowns. Most coaches look strictly at District/Conference performances when deciding teams.

It's hard to select teams based off overall stats because of each team's out-of-district schedule. Let's take a look at the rushing yards for example:

Marshall- 964 yards, 24 TDs
Lawson- 1273 yards, 19 TDs
Tyler- 828 yards, 10 TDs

Now let's focus on the out-of-conference opponents:

Marshall (Middlesex)- Mathews (counted as non-district), Rappahannock, Lancaster, Northumberland, Northampton
Lawson (West Point)- Northampton, Rappahannock, Washington & Lee, Surry, Lancaster
Tyler (Charles City)- Cumberland, Southampton, Sussex, Franklin, Colonial Beach

As you can see, out-on-conference/district competition can have stats vary because of the quality of the opponent. Some teams have tougher schedules than others so choosing the team after playing against a team is better for coaches.

Unfortunately for Conference 42, everybody doesn't get a chance to face their opponent. The only team that played Central Lunenburg this year from Conf. 42 was Cumberland. Cumberland faced three Conf. 42 teams (Charles City, King & Queen, Central Lunenburg), while all the Conf. 42 teams in the Tidewater District played against each other.

Those are just some of the factors that coaches deal with when voting for a player. Not just in football but in all sports. Trust me I spent eight years doing it for girls basketball.

Dre could you please delete this post. The official votes are not supposed to be out until early next week. We do not need the athletes finding out about their recognition or lack of recognition online. Thanks for any consideration in this.

I think it's ridiculous that coaches are supposed to wait until teams are "released" to inform their players. They are released when the coaches leave the room from voting. These kids should know that night or the next morning at school.
If Dre has it then the players should already too.

Well I guess the question becomes who was the one that was unprofessional and broke protocol by releasing it to the press when the guidelines were clearly set up. I agree that the kids should know sooner than later all I am saying is don't ruin it for those coaches that are professionals and are obeying the guidelines that were agreed upon.

Not to be disrespectful, but tidewater district is not very good with exception of Charles city(they whipped Franklin at the armory). So the paper is not worth that much anyway, West Point is not very good. I'm sure you will have 100 excuses that they were all eighth graders or something like that, but let's be real here. If someone had a thousand yards rushing in the tidewater district pardon me if I don't feel this is earth shattering. As a side note the all conference team that DRE has released seems missing some things so I'd bet my house boat that it has some mistakes, but there again it's mostly the tidewater district so I doubt that anyone outside of that district cares....side note: h823putt; you have a fantastic screen name, really quite good
Ps DRE I have a nice houseboat if you are willing to take me up on the offer, we both know you have some inaccuracies

Don't pay any attention to his list. Several glaring mistakes. Defensive player of the year was Raymond Alexander the DE from Central and not the kid from Matthews. Also Chris Fowler from Central was a 1st team LB and for those of you who are wondering. Foster the 1st team RB from Central had over 1300 yards and 21 TDs and also threw 2 TD passes while only playing RB for 7 games....

I'm not really sure where you come up with this but I could probably give you a couple hundred. But I will just give you one. In 6 of WP games, the other team scored more points.
Oh and by the way, your opinion means nothing to me.
The Lawson kid earned his way on the All Conference team.
Whether you like it or not, I could care less.

I love when people say " not to be disrespectful ". Then they are exactly that!!! Play who you have on your schedule, do your best to make a playoff run. Individual awards are good, but in the end it's about trying to win the championship. No matter what district you come from!!! Good luck Charles City
